Default Massive coolant leak

Hello everyone,
I'm usually on the x350 forum, however, I'm thinking of obtaining a 2017 F-Pace S. There is a massive amount of coolant coming from the rear of the engine between the back of the engine and transmission. I have looked under the supercharger with a bore scope and there is no leak under there. I tried to use the scope for the rear portion. i can see the fluid spewing out, but couldn't really see the source, due to the amount of steam at the time. I have been trying to locate a diagram of the component at the rear of the engine but can't seem to fine one. I'm reaching out to forum members to see if anyone has this diagram.

thanks in advance

J

Assuming the car has the AJ126 (V6 supercharged) then the most likely culprit is the heater manifold - a plastic pipe which runs across the rear of the engine block just below the supercharger. It's on the outside of the block and not "under" the supercharger as such. Once things cool down and the steam stops it's an easy pipe to see.
On a 2017 this would be the plasti-welded seamed variety which is notorious for failing/splitting/cracking/leaking, either along the seam or at the ends which plug into the engine block.
Not a yuge job to replace with a later smooth non-seamed version of the pipe (engine does not need to come out) but still labour intensive so costly, and best to get it done at an independent shop that has experience replacing this pipe.

Thanks for responding OzXFR, yes it's the V6 supercharged. I looked up parts list and saw the pipe you mentioned. The only problem is, there seem to be 2 versions of the pipe and the parts list i've seen don't really indicate which. Do you have a part number or know which pipe to use. I will do the work if I decide to get the car..

The aftermarket also supplies a replacement crossover pipe that is metal, rather than "failure prone" plastic.................

First,

Thanks to all of the above.

I have 2x X351 (2012 5.0 N/A and a 2018 575), My wife also has a 3.0 F-Pace (petrol). I'm fully aware of the cooling issues on these engines.

Today, my wife reversed her F-Pace out the garage and got a RED low coolant light. Thankfully, she stopped the car straight away. The car had a coolant system overhaul (under warranty in 2021)

On inspection, the coolant was at mid-way in the tank. The temp gauge never went above normal.

I checked all the known suspect areas and could see nothing of concern, the oil is clean, heads show no sign of weep, coolant pipes are intact, no drips on the garage floor, no smell of burnt coolant, heater works. (added. Rear manifold looks ok, no leaks from the pump etc). It must be going somewhere?

My only thought is that switching over from cabin cooling to heating, has created a problem.

Any ideas,

wombat

The only change is that the temp here has dropped 30F in the last week.

The heater manifold can leak at the flange where it bolts to the head. Very hard to see. Belly pan hides the leak from below. Pretty much have to climb on the motor and lay down on the super charger to look back there. I have removed the plastic cover permanently and I put a kneeling pad down on the super charger. This is what happened to our ‘18 Pace.

The XE had the same leak but it was from the out corner of the manifold pipe and was leaking all over the tranny. Easy to spot.

finished the job today. Found the metal heater pipe. The job wasn't that bad, took about 3 hrs...

The old one literally came apart at the seam.

Thanks again, and I don't want to hijack such a valuable thread.

Just thought I'd post an update on my problem.

Having topped off the reservoir, I ran the car for 50+ miles, very minor loss of fluid observed. However, there was a slight wisp of steam coming from the coolant tank cap and its blow off valve.

I bought a new tank and cap, and fitted them at the weekend. All seems to be good after 200+ miles.

The Jaguar part number is AJ814053. However the aluminum part can be found on Ebay. The part is located at the rear of the engine near the firewall
