As part of a recent 6000 kilometre road trip in our 2021 F-Pace we had over 100 kilometres of unsealed and very dusty roads. The rear doors don't seal very well so there was a significant buildup of gritty red dust on the rear seat bases. Investigating I noticed that the rubber seals have an unconnected join at the lower mid point. Whether this is the cause I don't know but over time if the seals shrink this gap will become wider.
Has anyone experienced poor dust sealing and can anyone confirm that the rubber seals should not have a break?
The Door Seal (item 8) on mine is continuous with no joint. The Aperture Seal (item 9) has a break at the bottom just in front of the tread plate. The ends butt together but there is a very slight gap.
I haven't used the vehicle in particularly dusty conditions and cannot comment on the efficiency of the sealing. It does seem rain resistant which is the more usual test in England.
The gap is as GGG described. On the lower section of the aperture seal. I've cleaned most the seats now but the dust was mostly on the base, heaviest at the outer sides but also on the outer vertical back rests. Generally dust all over though.
A slight diversion but still relevant to the topic of seals.
My F-Pace hadn't been used in a week and when I got into it on Sunday morning there was spider's webs all over the inside. It had been locked with all windows closed.
Not a problem I've had with any other Jaguar and my first thought was nothing should get past the AC filter to the interior of the vehicle. The filter had been replaced recently. It was still clean, fitted properly and the housing correctly assembled. This led me to check the AC and heater system layout in the Workshop Manual and the Parts Catalogue. I was very surprised to find Heater Service Kits specifically listed for F-Pace - they aren't listed like this for other Jaguar models:
There is clearly a recognised issue with sealing in this model or the replacements wouldn't be offered as kits. Unfortunately I don't have access to TSB's (Technical Service Bulletins) to see the advice given to dealers.
Interesting! I've emailed the dealership service manager but he is on leave until the 19th. I've specifically asked whether there are any relevant TSBs. Shall report back if there are.
When driving on the unsealed roads I left the AC on fresh air, reasoning that this might pressurize the cabin but apparently that didn't help.
