July 2014 sales - Jaguar in free fall, F-Type holding up very well
Jaguar sold 1187 cars in the US in July, down 26% YOY.
The F-Type had its best month ever and sold 501 units - comprising close to half of the brand's total US sales.
Jaguar desperately needs new product. The new SUV and XE can't come soon enough, and in the meantime Jaguar needs to do more to boost sales. Threads like the ones we saw recently where dealers didn't have a clue about marketing incentives tell you all you need to know...

Dealers in my area have independently expressed hope for a successful XE launch. We'll see.
One thing that absolutely needs to happen with the XE--ensuring its electronics reflects the latest technology. The only aspect of my R Coupe that disappoints is its decade-old electronics display interface, e.g., awkward touchscreen, navigational irritants in Bluetooth, SAT, etc. Jaguar will be marketing the XE to the "wired generation"--buyers who will be expecting a seamless electronic integration between car and driver. If Jaguar goes with the F-Type interface or tries to push a Ford-type SYNC system in the XE....
Soapbox over. Seeing how the F-Type has garnered the excitement and attention from so many, I am hopeful. I mentioned in a previous post that all sorts of folks, not just Jag aficionados, have come up to me not only at meets. but on the street, asking me questions about my car, Haven't had that happen since I drove my 93.5 MKIV Supra TT hardtop years ago!

Thanks for posting the update swa.
Agree they need new models badly.
The XE and the SUV don't really excite me to be honest, although I'm hoping they can generate enough volume to form a keel of stability for the Jaguar lineup.
What would work better for Jaguar I think is a 2+2 XKR replacement, maybe a bmw 4 series competitor, and perhaps a slots competing with the MB CL and CLS.
These slots better reflect premium design and pricing opportunities for the brand, and are more likely to result in products that stand out and stand true to Jaguar's heritage of premium British craftsmanship.

Agree. The XE could also add much-needed scale to amortize in-house engine development costs, and also help fund the hybrid drive train development underway.
I understand the necessity of the XE and SUV, but look forward to the next wave of higher end models.

Yeah I don't know what's up with the sales, maybe they were in short supply until the 2015s hit the dealerships, XF sales have basically been halved the last two months compared to 2013. Hopefully with the reveal of the XE in September it gets people to come into the dealerships even though it's not arriving for us until 2016. I really don't know why we're getting it then when it'll be on sale in the UK next year.
There must be some distribution or capacity issue for earlier release in USA? Maybe someone in the auto industry can shed some light on this . The 1187 cars for July seems like an incredibly low number. If there was one Jag dealer in every state that would be about 20-25 cars per dealer.
Stopped by my dealer yesterday to pick up a part, and my rep said the following:
1. She sold 6 F-types in the last month, and was the top rep in the country (US) for the models. Given that there were ~500 F-Types sold in the country, that says something interesting about the distribution of the vehicles.
2. They are desperately waiting for 2015 inventory for other (non-F-Type) models. This is what's driving the dip in sales....also some models like the XJ are getting rebundled for 2015, causing some customers to hold off buying.

This article has an interesting summary:
"The F-Type was Jaguar's best-selling car in May, when it generated 33% of the brand's volume. It was Jaguar's best-selling car in the U.S. in June, when it generated 34% of the brand's volume. The F-Type was also Jaguar's best-selling car in the U.S. in July, with 42% of the brand's volume.
In July, the F-Type's 501 sales placed it ahead of the Audi TT (101), BMW Z4 (120), and Mercedes-Benz SLK (416). The Boxster and Cayman combined to sell 559 units. Porsche also sold 849 911s."

Lease residuals and lease deals of the sedans is not competitive to what Mercedes and BMW offer from time time.
The subsidized lease deals from the Germans makes it a tough sale for jaguar sedans.
The SUV s will be a huge help as well...
