Default 0-60 time for S coupe

Does anybody know why the Jag website now gives, for 2017 MY, I presume, the 0-60 time for the S coupe auto RWD as 5.5 (5.3), when it was previously 4.8?

I think you're looking at the number for the manual transmission version. The automatic is quicker.

I just confirmed that on the 2017 website. The auto V6S RWD is still 4.8 and the manual is 5.3 The base auto is 5.1 and base manual is 5.5.

No, 4.8 is the number for the RWD V6S. Actually, it's 4.9 for the AWD V6S.

Using this link, you have to select the appropriate model at the top of the page. I tried to post the specs for each model, but the model specific link doesn't carry over when you copy and paste. If you click on the link below, it defaults to base manual, and you have to choose the appropriate model, then click on "engines and performance."

Coupe/Convertible versions have the same times.

I wouldn't put too much stock in these numbers. They will give you a rough idea, but they are far from accurate and OEMs have been known to fudge them for whatever reason.

Take the SVR vs. R for example. 25 more horsepower and a hundred pounds less weight equals 0.4 seconds... I think not. Its been well documented that the AWD R can do it in 3.5.

Plus, can anyone with a v6 manual confirm what the engine rpm is at 60mph in 2nd?

I'm wondering whether the stated difference between the base and S is real or just marketing.

+1 on this.

I think Jaguar rates their 0-60 times in Normal Mode with all of the nannies on. Several sources have tested the R and had results around the 3.5 mark.

I am very interested to see how the SVR will do in independent reviews. I am thinking it will be closer to the 3 second mark.

Once you're in a car capable of living in 3 second territory, it's more the driver, conditions, and luck than the car. The law of diminishing returns kicks in.

For comparison purposes the 650HP/650 ft.lbs torque, Z06 lists 3.0 for the auto and 3.3 for the manual. It also weighs 300-400 lbs. less than the R/SVR.

V6S: redlines in 1st at exactly 40mph.
~5800rpm in 2nd at 60mph.

I know the base auto and V6S auto have different gear ratios, which would largely explain the claimed .3 sec V6S RWD advantage. What about the two manual V6 diffs?

Both V6 manuals have a 3.31 final ratio (as does the V6S auto). The huge difference between the manuals and auto is that the manual 2nd gear is about the same ratio as the auto 3rd gear (2.32 vs. 2:11)

So a single geachange for both manuals, and two for the auto. The 0.2s difference between the base and the S looks a bit fanciful...

10% more horsepower should count for something.

Not so much to 60 when you have the same torque and don't see not until the end of the rpm band.

"Not so much" is consistent with a mere 3.5% improvement in the 0-60 time.

Keep in mind this isn't a linear improvement. I agree the S is quicker, but it may also be Jaguar marketing.

Yes, all things being equal, the S should be quicker, but I would expect to 60 is a coin flip. However, a stripped base is going to be a heck of lot lighter than an optioned S which is more likely to come w/ the heavy options like the "wingback chairs", etc.

My guess is that the JLR published weights are the lightest configurations available, and the S, for example comes std. with the same seats as the base. I don't put any stock on the published 0-60 times.
