Default 2016 F-Type S Overall Reliability

All, good day. I'm in the process of purchasing a 2016 F-Type S with roughly 16k miles on it. It looks good and pretty loaded with all the creature comforts. The vehicles runs like a rocket and idles just waiting for another run.... I look at it at night to make sure all the interior/exterior lights work and I test drove it during daylight hours to make sure no gremblings where hiding e.g. drivetrain, engine knocks, etc.
I consider myself pretty handy around vehicles as I have a fully stocked auto hobby shop where I take all my vehicles for maintenance and the occasional replacement of parts. My one and only question regarding the F-Type is the engine and transmission reliability for any of you that have a F-type for several years. I know they're a bit quirky with the miscellaneous things that brake and need replacing, I'm somewhat concerned about the issues/trends I've read about, but much more concerned with engine and transmission major issues/repairs.... any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I'm looking forward to spending allot of time going through the threads on the site to learn more about the quirkiness of this vehicle in-betweens runs with the active muffles wide open..

Holy, thank you for the quick reply. No matter how hard I dig, I can't find any real serious reliability issues so far. Tib bits, here and there but nothing extraordinary. Thanks again.

Much the same as Holy, had mine for 3.5 years and 56,000 km now with a VAP pulley and tune for the last 2 years and only two problems:
1. Noisy rattly torsion isolator/coupler in the snout of the SC, fixed under warranty. Fairly common on all V6 and V8 F-Types, just a matter of when it strikes rather than if.
2. Small crack in one of the small coolant pipes across the top front of the engine. Not all that common but cracked/split/failing coolant pipes are a known weakness on these engines, again both V6 and V8, again just a matter of when not if you get one.
That's it.
The transmission is the same for all F-Types other than the 6 speed manual trans - the ZF 8 speed 8HP70 "quick shift" which is bullet proof, in as much as no-one to my knowledge has ever reported a problem let alone a failure.
About the only things to look out for on a used S with 16k miles on it are brakes and tyres as both tend to wear quickly on the F-Type. Depending on the previous owners' driving style the brake pads could be getting low and the tyres could also be due for replacement. The OEM tyres are Pirelli P-Zero and not to put too fine a point on it they are crap, low grip and wear out way too fast as well as wear very unevenly (inside edges twice as fast as the outside edges).
So check the brake pads and tyres and you may be able to haggle a few thou off the price if they are knackered.

the only real thing you should worry about is the diff, you can probably find out more about it if you search these forums but its a rare occurence and i think someone on here is building an upgrade diff with a company currently, that'll be a good option to have for the what if.

Engine is mostly problem-free, but there is a small percentage that fails due to oil starvation. Most of these failures are on tuned cars. Unfortunately, F-type doesn't warn about low oil condition, does not have a physical dipstick to check oil level, and has extra-long oil change interval. So it is easy to run it dry if it starts consuming oil.

Automatic transmission is entirely problem-free. Manual transmission has a marginal clutch in early years.

The overall reliability for an automatic V6 F-type is decent, if you stay on top of oil changes. The overall reliability for a manual V6 F-type is below average, you will have to sort out clutch and incidental damage out of pocket.

All, thank you for the responses. This gives me the reassurance that I need to move forward with the purchase. I'll check out the overall maintenance of the vehicle, I have an eye to spot things some people try to hide. I've purchased over 20 in my lifetime, both new and used and I've been fortunate so far. I tend to keep my vehicles for a very long time through optimal maintenance both interior and exterior so when I pass them on, I can sleep at night knowing the new owner has a gem if they maintain the vehicle.
Again, thank you all for the replies. I'll post pics of the vehicle once I have it in my driveway and stare at it for a couple of hours.

I see you are in the southern USA...

If you look at any southern cars with the leather interior, check the dash/instrument coverings for the leather coming unglued. Also look here about posts containing the words 'sticky buttons'.

Hi Lee Frank here my16 s storm grey coupe with brogue interior ivory stitching performance seats. Love my car. I purchased last August with 30k miles. Beautiful condition throughout, had them replace the rear brakes pads, rotors and tires. I also had them do a brake fluid change. The only issue which was covered under warranty (which your car should also have) was a differential pinion gear seal. It’s very easy to check the oil level and tire pressure which I do regularly. From what I’ve read and seen these jaguars don’t usually burn oil. With my 63 e type I changed the oil and filter every year, I plan on doing the same with the f type, cheap engine insurance. You will love the f type and it’s drop dead gorgeous.
