Default Best bang for buck performance mods

Hey guys, I’ll be picking up my new (to me) f type r awd coupe very soon. I wanted to know what the best performance mods are for this car to retain reliability but get more performance out of it. I’ll be getting a tune from a local shop. Before I get the tune should I get both an upper and lower pulley? Meth injection? Thanks in advance for all of your feedback. Coming from a m4.

Since you're coming from an M4, my first advice would be to throw your mod thought process out the window. Jaguar isn't nearly as easy to tune and doesn't offer the aftermarket support of BMW. I'd do a ton of research before having some random local shop do a tune; have they ever worked with Jaguar before? Do they know anything about Jaguar's ECU platform? Do they even have the right tools to do the job? Honestly, a local tune probably isn't your best option unless they have experience with dong F-types before.

Outside of that, most people on the R model go for the lower crank pulley and never have any problems with a proper tune. Up to you with how much risk you wanna take, as more horsepower means more stress on the engine. Otherwise, there isn't much out there that offers a great "bang for your buck" horsepower wise; certainly not what you're used to on turbo BMWs. I would suggest ditching the P-zeros and upgrading to Michelin PS4S tires.

How about cutting 46 pounds of unsprung weight and really improve the looks with a set of Wortec 2 pcs rotors. I'm trying to put together a group buy right now (deadline Dec 22). These are the same weight as the CCB brakes but without same the cost of maintenance. If you're interest check it out at Wortec Group Buy

This is solid advice - find people that actually work on or specialize with Jags. Anything you do with the Jag will require more research, money and time than a normal mass production brand will and there is some trial and error if you go with things that aren't from companies that really know the Jag.

I see that and raise forged wheels. The AWD R already has heaps of performance but you do feel the weight especially in the front. If I was getting one the first mods I'd be doing would be wheels, second rotors (though if the group buy is on I'd do it the other way around), third would be pulley and tune.

Realistically, tuning the R is a higher risk proposition than an M4, and the risk probably outweighs the benefit. I never found it to be necessary, but obviously that’s a personal choice.

There are some reliable tuners, so if you do tune it, make sure to use those so that you don’t grenade your engine, There have been several of those posted here.

Having had an M4 and being on my second R, in my experience, the car is faster than the M4 in most situations and puts the power down much better as well. As others mentioned, tires are probably the main thing to consider as well as some weight savings, but that’s really only going to be noticeable if you’re on the track.

I'm not sure about the R, but lightweight wheels and better tyres on mine made a major difference in daily driving, eg spitting out of roundabouts etc even at reasonable speeds. The difference at direction changes is quite amazing. Out of everything I've ever done to a car it has had the best overall improvement to enjoyment, maybe because I wasnt expecting it to be so noticeable.

I'd say that the answer to your question depends on what *you* mean by performance.

If performance means power, then pulley and tune seems the obvious answer. There are reputable, proven providers of those that can easily be found on this site. I chose VelocityAP; they're not the only game in town. but I have 30K miles on their tune with no troubles, and just got a pulley delivered yesterday. Installation is going to happen when I get a chance, although I may swallow my pride and have it done. I prefer to do everything myself but do not have a lift anymore.

If performance is more of an all 'round thing, or handling, then the advice on reducing unsprung weight is well worth noting. The brake rotors are like manhole covers. You'll bust a gut lifting them. I've got the Wortecs and am planning on lighter wheels as well but I'm not made of money

Forged wheels can peel 40 lbs off the unsprung weight and the Wortec rotors another 45 lbs. The improvement in steering response and nimbleness is truly remarkable.

Thanks for the detailed response. I’m probably going to do a lower pulley and racing chip. Would you recommend going with race chip over velocity AP? Looking for a tune that will give me more top end
