Default Clutch issue?

Hello All,
This is a bit long, so apologies in advance, but I'm having a frustrating intermittent issue that I can't explain and the dealership can't reproduce.
I purchased a cpo 2016 F-type Base coupe with a 6mt in January with 4400 miles on it. I had read about the clutch slippage issues that some early cars had and was quite happy that I did not seem to have any problems. About 2 weeks or so after I took delivery, I had an issue where I could not put the car in gear when stepping on the clutch without great force. It seemed like the clutch was not disengaging. I could start the car in gear but would have difficulty getting it out of gear and shifts were very hard. I immediately took the car to the dealership, however as I was driving there the problem resolved itself. I left the car at the dealership for several days and they could not reproduce the issue. I had some other things taken care of at the time (scratched windows, rattling speakers) and I took the car home. It ran fine and had no issues until again out of the blue this clutch issue happened again. I again took the car back to the dealership and of course it got better on the trip there. We let it sit for 15 minutes and tried to see if it acted up again, as it had earlier that day, but of course it did not. So, i took it home. This has now happened several times over the last few months and today it actually happened while I was driving (usually only occurred when starting from being parked). I am growing increasingly frustrated with this problem and am wondering if anybody else has had this happen or if anyone knows what might be happening? Appreciate any input.
Thanks,
Jordan

Depending on the dealership, you could drop it off the previous night so it would have sat for a few hours before they open. I don't know if the dealership has a night drop off location or not but that would be a way for them to experience the problem if it's happening on a cold car.

I've left it at the dealership previously for a few days. The problem is it seems to happen randomly and without notice. Right now i can't even get in gear, so I am most likely going to have it flat bedded to the dealer as I can't even get it out of the driveway now.

What’re the last 5 digits of your VIN? My first clutch had those same symptoms at 800 miles on the odo.

Based on your description, it seems the clutch driven plate is sticking to the flywheel, or there is an issue with the pressure plate diaphragm.

That was symptom #3 for me, after slipping and vibration under very specific conditions. WI looked at the pieces that came out and there were loose bits, little springs as i recall, that were probably preventing complete disengagement. It was very intermittent, and took patience and understanding on the part of both me and the dealer to get the problem to present itself clearly enough that they could see it for themselves. Once it did in the presence of the tech, it was all taken care of, including a leaking rear main seal they found in the process.

Last digits are 34344. So, it sounds like I'm heading for clutch replacement.

Fairly late in the ‘16 production cycle, so you probably have the gen 2 clutch. My gen 2 clutch also failed that same way. I’ve had 2 gen 1 clutches ( lasted 800 miles & 7k miles), 1 gen 2 clutch (lasted 14 k miles) and now in a gen 4 clutch ( surprisingly, still good after 9k miles).

Almost undoubtedly 2nd gen clutch. You should read:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/f...o-gear-215498/

Remarkably, I appear to have one of the first 2nd gen clutches, have 25.5K on the car and have had no sign of any trouble to date. Never have even felt a slip.

Good Luck,

FYI #35009 here, 1/16 build, just shy of 11k miles. No clutch issues - yet.

I had a similar problem before my third service which included a brake fluid service as this also bleeds the clutch, it completely dived the problem. Apparently, they had never fully bled the clutch.

Quick update, car is at dealership and service advisor said they are going to replace the clutch, just have to wait on parts. Hope this takes care of it for good.

Quick update: Picked up the car yesterday. My usual service advisor was out sick so I didn't have a chance to talk with him. But, according to the paperwork they found the slave cylinder was leaking which caused premature wear of the clutch disc. Not sure if this is really the case, as I never noticed any fluid leaking or dripping, but anyway they replaced the clutch, flywheel, slave cylinder and all the associated parts. So far I notice the clutch engagement point is closer to the floor and seems a bit softer, and I don't know if this is in my head but it does seem easier to shift as well. Hopefully, this generation clutch does the trick.
