I'm not willing to believe that there are no F-Type owners out there that bought the car so they could get nearly the same public validation as driving an Aston, Audi R8, 911, etc for a much better price.

Right now my decision is split 50/50. I am fully willing to allow the opinions of others be the tie-breaker. And so far, from the female demographic that I'm curious of their opinion, the Jag only has a marginal lead.

If you haven't noticed yet, you'll find all types on this forum. If you ask for an opinion or advice, you'll get it.

if you buy a car for what other people think, you're doing it wrong.

If it is female attention that you want (and that is a worthy cause) I'd have thought you'd do much better in a Maserati than a bimmer (yawn) or a f type (nice but my skirt will split and I'll look silly and flash my panties getting in and out). Or a Benz (my friends will be so impressed), Porsche (the badge will look soooo good on instagram pics), or Aston (same problem as the f type but I wont be needing those panties!)

It's an inescapable aspect of today's society, the selfie generation. Most of us get haircuts, etc based on what makes us most appealing to both ourselves and others.

I bought the car because I liked Jaguar, the cars looks/sound, and the weird features (like the retractable air vents). All my friends told me it was "bad" because the 0-60 times weren't that fast for the price. Urged me to buy a ZL1 or hellcat. Something with a lot of HP and good 0-60 times. Ultimately it didn't sway my decision

If peer pressure matters to you, and you think the BMW is what your friends like. Then get the BMW.

Facebook has spoken in favor of a white Jag (ahead of my other options Salsa Red and BR Green). No surprise to any of you. At this point if I do go that route I'll only consider a V6 S, hopefully with the design pack and then consider headers, which I assume is a "safer" mod than an ECU tune (and I know headers are less effective without a tune).

ok continue to live your life without regard for anyone else's opinions, I'm sure you've been able to adhere to that mantra since day one.

I clearly started this thread seeking opinions from other people from the very beginning. Nothing has changed.

Owning a white ftype myself, you will attract plenty of attention and people will drool over your car. I do not believe you will get that with the BMW. Just another opinion. I looked at the 650, but believe the design lines of the ftype will make it a classic. I work in a design profession and there is no disagreement on that point. I don't understand the reliance on other opinions but offer mine as requested.

I think of driving cars at this price tier as mobile works of art. If I can only own one piece of artwork that's up for public display, I might as well get something that's also liked by the most amount of people. It's not sitting in a private gallery after all.

I don't ask for other's opinions when trying to decide my favorite movie between two choices, I just leave it as a tie. In this case, I'm so undecided and recognize the pros and cons of each that some sort of external tie-breaker is necessary.

Since you brought up the subject of art; something I have intimate knowledge of (I not only went to art school but was a professional photographer another life ago):

- in my opinion the Jaguar F-Type is a rolling piece of art.

- the beauty of art is one need no knowledge - intimate or not - of art to know what they like or don't like.

- beauty is in the eyes of the beholder (in other words the only thing which matters is how you feel about it).

- when I created art - and to some extent I still do (as some of you here know) - I never ever cared what other people thought of what I created. I created it for myself (even when working for a client; presumably any client who hired me in the first place did so because they liked "my" style).

- I bought my F-Type and every car before that for one person and one person only: ME. Whether someone likes my car or not I could care less.

You will hopefully make the right call for the the reasons; otherwise you're like a dog chasing their own tail. In my opinion your thought process is askew.

When it comes to nice cars, you'll attract more men than women. I got a lot more attention from women when I had a POS Mustang II. (the fact that I was 40 years younger might have had just a little bit to do with that, lol)

Never intentionally taken a selfie. Those that I have taken, only show my feet.

Test drove plenty of cars during the last 5 years including Ferrari 360, 430, 599, Porsches 991.1, 991.2, S or non S, BMW M4 (recent test drive), .. and besides the Ferraris, something was lacking in all of them. I do own a Porsche Cayenne so I know the brand pretty well.
Test drove 4 F-types within 2 weeks before pulling the trigger on my R 2015.
The F-type has the most sexy curves of all of them and has the sound I was after. The Ferraris made the same impression on me but couldnt pull the trigger on near 10 yo cars while the F-type was almost brand new.
My f-type is a weekend car which I drive only for the pleasure of driving. It looks, feels special to me and gives me a huge smile anytime I drive it. And all of that for less than the equivalent of 70K (in US$).
The M4 was looking insipid in comparison and is looking like any other sedan out there..
For something like the F-type I think that you should buy it because it looks, sounds and feels good to your heart. Period. Forget about the rest and just enjoy life !

I had to google that reference lol. I was just looking for their opinions purely on looks. How the car drives, the speed, sound, how it makes me feel and fits my lifestyle is all on me. But to me, on those factors, it's currently a tie. If I polled people on an F-Type vs a Hellcat or Corvette and they all voted on the latter I would tell them to pound sand.

I think at this point I'm going to see how the F-Type further depreciates. By the end of March next year, if I can find a V6 S with Meridian Surround and Design Pack (or AWD) for around $52-55k (currently the cheapest is at $67k) then I will jump on that. If not, and I can find a 650i xDrive coupe with radar cruise control for ~$45k then I'll get that.

The F-Type is easily the best looking car ever made under the $120k mark. I would use the F-Type as a daily driver, and as much as I would love the V8, I think I would be limited to a 2016 model with AWD to handle bad weather, which puts me outside what I'm wanting to spend.

I started my car search wanting a Mercedes E350 coupe for like $38k, then an E550 coupe, and now it just ballooned up to the F-Type lol. I was even seriously entertaining a Mercedes C450 AMG since it's quick, fun, and practical, but would have blended in with all the base C-Classes out there.

Young guys are simply unaware that subconsciously they are trying to impress other men. Not unlike how makeup is in fact war paint for competing females. How else do you explain a smoke stack on a jacked up pickup truck. What girl is actually saying I want a man with that taste.

A Jaguar is for those who have freed themselves from their primal directives.

Both sheep and wolves huddle in their packs for comfort and politics. A jaguar is a lone rider above it all.
