Default Convertible Input

Hi all. I have a 2018 R convertible with approx. 2500 miles. It’s awesome...with the top down. With the top up there are some noises that drive me crazy and I feel shouldn’t be present in a $100,000+ car. I wouldn’t call them rattles, more like rubbing noises. Yes I know it’s a convertible but I’ve had Corvettes that were quieter. This is a great weekend, top down car but I couldn’t use it a daily driver. Rattles, rubs, squeaks in vehicles drive me nuts.
Was just wondering if this is everyone’s experience with the F Type ‘vert. Any suggestions on improvements?

Mine is quite quiet with the top up. A little bit of wind noise but that to be expected with any vert. Mine is a 2014 so the occasional rattle or groan is coming from normal aging. It’s quiet with the top up so every noise that is there is more obvious to my ear. Given what the car is it’s far quieter than cars I’ve been in that are even over $150-300K.

My 2014 is quiet too. Sometimes the seatbelt ring on the side of the headrest unsnaps and clicks a little til you snap it again.

Huh. I wonder why my ‘18 seems to make more noises than it should. Don’t get me wrong, the decibel level Inside is not high/loud, its the little buzzing, rubbing noises that are annoying. Oh well. Fortunately it’s not my daily and I drive it mostly with the top down. Maybe if I lubricate some of the seals it will improve.

Mine is quite quiet considering it has a soft top. Little wind noise at all. It does however have a few creaks when moving slowly over bumps but no persistent rattles.

Mine isn't horrible, especially when the exhaust valves are open, but when they are closed I hear lots of creaks, squeaks and rattles from the seats vibrating, and some wind noise, plus the loud AF Pilot sport 4S tires I recently put on, I love the car with the top down but with the top up its louder then what i'd like.

You're saying the Pilots are loud; what brand did they replace? I'm on OEM Continentals and think they are loud. Was considering Michelins as replacements, but noise is a biggy for me.

Definitely try some quality seal lubricant. I would make sure you use some at least once a year. I've heard good things about Krytox and MicroLubrol.

I have close to 30k miles in my 2017 and can say it has been one of the more quiet/rattle free convertibles that I have owned. I actually can’t think of a single noise that it makes. The only time I ever had an issue was when my wife reclined the passenger seat against the bulk head and left it there. That squeaked but was a one touch remedy. Some wind noise, but that is to be expected with the soft top.

Firehawk indy 500's. Overall the car is a lot grippier but noisier and not as quick to react I think.

Firehawks were on my short list; guess I'll scratch them.
Thanks for the reply.

My '14S is as quiet as can be expected, no unusual sounds just road noise.

Thought it was coming from top rubber seal but no . came from leather at end of door area around door shut took me weeks to trace it down . Used Ptt silicone spray on it and surrounds . 2014 V6S with 32k miles and I have terrible rattles coming from the center rising air vent, rattles on bad surfaces right behind the passenger seat, and door speakers that rattle and buzz depending on the music. I have resolved about 4 different rattle issues on my XFR and have family members that have an F-Pace and an X260 XF, and both suffer with some rattle issues.

2018 R convertible here...no rattles. It has more wind noise than my previous coupe had, as expected, but definitely not unreasonable. It’s also smoother than my coupe which had a terrible rattle from the hatch area that drove me nuts on the freeway.
