Well it's here to stay, anyway orders are going in strong and fast for the new 2.0 R Dynamic, purists will hate it, others will love it, think the aftermarket jaguar exhaust manufactures will be looking to do something for the noise issue.

 

I'm looking forward to see what VAP does with it.

First that comes to mind is Mercedes... they get lot from their 2.0... think CLA45AMG, 355hp iirc, and that's from the factory.

 

For selfish reasons I'm not thrilled about the 2.0 F-Type as it may result in seeing more F-Types on the road. I kind of enjoy driving vehicles that are not seen on every daily commute.

I do get his point that you can feel iike you are driving the car aggressively without actually driving double the speed limit.

 

the 2.0 is pretty much the same price as the base V6 so don’t think you will see much difference in terms of F Type sales volumes

 

Going down-market and diluting the brand will never be favored by existing owners. I'm not a fan of it.

 

Thing is i think the 3.0 in going to be pushed up by another £10,000. Here in Ireland , the 3.0 is €25,000 more expensive than the 2.0, the base 3.0 coupe 2017 price started at €95,000, bit more for 2018, different in other countries, the 5.0 coupe R AWD is an astonishing €169,950 here.

There is no replacement for displacement.

 

These will be extremely rare in North American market. Probably less common than SVRs. You can now get off-lease V8S, so why would anyone go for 2.0L?

Personally, I was not impressed with 2.0L engine in XE. It was underwhelming at lower end, and only pulled near red line. When paired with XE automatic whole package was obnoxious due to excessive shifting.

If F-Type 2.0L is anything like new XE, it will be a dog.

However, 2.0L engine has a proper dipstick. Of that, I am envious.

 

Totally different customer base - someone that is looking for a brand new car with zero miles, full warranty and wants to pay a minimal lease payment of a couple of hundred bucks a month won't be interested in a 4 year old, 30k miles no warranty 5.0 V8 monster !!

The kind of person who will buy the 2.0 is probably cross shopping leases on SLK's and Z4's.

 

Heavy car with a small engine...I just don't get it.

Small engines are great in lightweight cars where the power/weight ratio is in the right ballpark for fun of course

Bit like the 2.0L Mustang...daft!

I didn't realize that the 2.0L models are already out!

I feel like the 2.0L models would be just barely acceptable with a manual transmission, but terrible with an automatic. I hate turbo lag!

 

Orders for 2018 models are stacking up , in some markets there is a 6 month waiting list if ordered now. Having an xkr with all the mods done and just over 500bhp i know what power feels like, and will destroy a V6 f-type and make the R sweat, but i was astonished driving the 2.0 car. My xkr has an aftermarket exhaust with all the pops and crackles of a f-type and is every bit as loud.
The new 2.0 has the looks and same interiors as the V6 model. Yes the noise isn't like the V6 but is not bad. The whole thing is the driving experience and it is something else, for 300bhp it's great and this is me coming from 500bhp, where you're just pushed back in the seat. The 2.0 is like driving a go kart and what a front end, it is unreal on corners. I know my car would have it on take off and a straight line, but it would never stay with it on a winding roads.
You read and see all these reviews of guys that drive high powered cars and keep saying it's not a V6 or R level machine , which is true it's a 2.0, get over it. When i drove it i completely forgot about the noise drama of which i'm used to and love. But you get so engrossed in the driving of it, IMO its a brilliant car and the auto gearbox is great, you just have to work it which is giving the go kart feel, I've driven the R and The V6 and it's never going to be an R but for the V6 you have the noise, the 2.0 has the better driving experience.
I know in the uk market there's not much difference in the price of the 2.0 and V6 but it is vast in some markets. It's never going to sell well in the Uk market because of this , but is moving well elsewhere,

Don't knock the small upstart, it is a great car.

0-60 sounds like a Mini Cooper, and not the S either.

 

The thing is - if I want something that handles and goes like a go-kart I would get a Cayman / Boxster. There would be no comparison. The appeal of the F Type over the Porsche is the supercharged engines (V6 and V8), big power and of course the soundtrack. With a 2.0 turbo four banger its really lost its USP and there are better alternatives out there.

"If you want a fast F-Type don't buy this car." correct but buy an R version because it is in par with speed and have to say better handling than the V6 unless you want to spend more money for the noise. Some people might not want the big drama.

It looks amazing, drives well, fit and finish, review is well done and great to watch and the guy seems to be fair but that is just his option, he said he tested a svr, well the 2.0 was dead to him before he even drove it. Too much to live up to for him.

ek993, I wouldnt buy any porsche as i never liked them in any form, just me, always had jags back to my first one the X-type, which was basically a ford mondeo under the skin. As for looks the F-type is stunning compared to a boxster/cayman, This car will appeal to jag owners who want an F-type without the big drama.

I think it has ruffled a lot of owners V6 and R feathers who feel that people won't know the difference unless they know the exhaust configuration and how the car sounds and are a bit peed off by that. Park a new 2018 V6 and 2.0 side by side and they look the same ,only difference is the exhausts.

The review this is the guy's option, we all have different views on cars we drive and that's our personality. IMO its now the best looking 2.0 litre on the market now and that's a great thing.
