F type ignition problem
Hello, my 2015 manual f type won’t start. AA roadside assist called by and battery, fuses etc all in perfect order. Have disconnected battery for a few mins to force a reset and didn’t work.
I am wondering is it simply that the ignition button is done… as it could be as simple as that based on all other signs (radio, seats etc all working)
Is it common for the ignition / start button to fail?
I am likely going to replace it anyway as it’s easy to do and will save getting the car recovered etc.

Many people have replaced the ignition button because of cosmetic wear, but I don't recall anyone having one fail. It's certainly easy to replace if you want to give it a try - it's a 1-minute job (see the "How To" sticky). More likely, I'd guess it's a grounding issue.
interesting, how would a grounding issue be diagnosed and fixed, potentially?
Does the dash light up, does the engine turn over? Presumably, if it were something as simple as a faulty brake switch, you’d get the message to push the brake while pushing the start button.
The dash lights up but it displays nothing other than the jag logo, mileage and date. No errors. It’s as if I don’t push start at all, it doesn’t turn over or tell me to press the clutch.

It does sound like a bad switch. What happens if you don't press the brake/clutch and press the start button? It should turn on the ignition. If nothing happens, I’d investigate the switch.

This is why I think it’s the switch, as it’s as if I’m not pressing it as nothing shows up or happens when I press i
the AA guy suggested it may be a ghost immobiliser that’s been in “service” mode and just reactivated which I feel is a bit of a reach… but maybe

I fixed this issue!
It was the switch. Popped it out and noticed the clip on the back was loose, held it together and she fired up.
Will replace the switch myself. No recovery and faff with a garage required.
Delighted.

You can either gently pry up the edges of the existing switch - some have done this using tooth floss (!) and it will easily come free, - then you unplug it, plug in the new switch, press it down and you are done, OR, and perhaps better, you pry up the entire shift surround panel (easy) because it is simply held in place by press clips, using a plastic trim removal tool. The latter process is what I used. It is a 3 minute job at most.
Before installing a new switch you might want to spray coat the button with a clear satin spray urethane ffor plastics. This will prevent wear on the new switch (which is mostly finger nail damage).
