Default A few updates...

So I decided to do a few updates to the new car...

Didn’t seem like a lot until I got to wait for it to all get done...

- VAP lowering springs
- 17mm motor tech spacers
- Porterfield brake pads
- trimmed rear inner fender edges 1/4”
- painted gloss black: front spoiler lip, front side vent bar thingys, side sills, and rear venturi
- Swissvax Polishing/Paint correction
- full body wrap with X-Pel Ultimate Plus
- wheels: Opti-Coat Pro Plus
- windows (exterior): Opti-Glass Pro
- windows (interior): X-pel Prime XR Plus ceramic window tint

a few pics:

Dealer web site...

Lease return / pick up day

First day (kept 20” Tornadoes from V6S) - note wheels are gloss black, but OEM pads are rotating dust storms

Getting new springs, spacers and Porterfield brake pads

VAP springs with 15mm spacers (and window tinting)

After VAP springs & 15mm spacers

Bumpers / rockers off to paint a few bits

I’ll be back... (with Austrian accent)

Painted front spoiler and vent bar thingys (ignore dust)

Original body-color venturi

Painted venturi

Side sills and venturi painted, rear inner fender lips trimmed, 17mm spacers installed

X-Pel on nose and hood

Love this angle

So close (yeah hood is open and tow hook cap missing)

Almost done

All done! (For now)...

Many thanks to Matt from Stewart's Automotive, Mike from Appearance Solutions, and David from Diamond Auto Body !

(Sorry for the thousand photos)

Looks soooo much better with those bits painted black. Especially the vent “thingys” in front. I am not a big fan of the new R front end, but that makes it much more doable. Nice job, it looks great!

I was disappointed with the R front on 18MY when it came out, but I figured I would end up with a 19MY or used SVR when my 16MY lease ended. So when it came time I couldn’t pass up the deal on it. I wanted to remove the bars, but the backing grill is not solid - the bars have molded landing spots, so it would look even dumber if removed without making some kind of new grill pieces. So I tried to minimize them by blacking out. Still not a huge fan, but starting to grow on me. When I get in and start it up, I instantly forget about it :^)

Great pics, send more please! Also, did you expel the WHOLE car or just certain parts, I'm also picking up my 19.5MY from the same dealership in hopefully a weeks time.

Just came back from a drive with Gregg and I can say that the car looks even better in person. Sounds great too, but it will sound even better once the break in is over

I did whole car - full body, bumpers, mirrors... everything except wheels and glass, which are coated with ceramic. If you are interested in xpel, the dealer uses the same guy as I did, they just charge you more for it. My post has a link to their web site, but pm me if you want more details. Good luck with yours! Niello has been great to work with.

Just noticed from your photos that they changed the hood lines again.

I thought it was because of AWD? Diff from yours?

It is different. They added an extra line on each side of the "hump," whereas originally the AWD hood just had a wider hump.

You know what, I take it back. I may have just never noticed the subtlety before.

Looks great, love the color. Nice choice on modifications, its all those little details that make the car really stand out. Once you get used to seeing a F type on lowering springs with proper wheel offsets, OEM cars look almost silly.

Just wish it wasn't taking me so long to get used to the new LED lights and the horizontal lower facia openings...

Looks great.

- trimmed rear inner fender edges 1/4”

Was this necessary to accommodate the lowering springs? Wheel offsets? Or both? Thanks.

Thanks!

this was based on my last setup on the V6S: VAP springs + 17mm spacers with OEM pirelli sleds had no rubbing. When I replaced the sleds with Michelin PS4s I got slight rubbing at rear passenger fender (slight superficial cut into tire) on extreme bumps. Rather than stress about it I just had them trimmed a little (based on a few others in the forum having done it).
I am just starting to put it through it’s paces, so jury still out, but after a spirited mount road drive yesterday all ok so far. If I find it rubs at all, plan b is swapping 17mms with 15mms.

I parked next to a 2016 stock R today and the first thing I noticed was how different the stance was compared to Gregg’s. The spacers and VAP springs are subtle but make a huge difference.

It was a fun drive yesterday and it did not hurt that there was no traffic my favorite stretch. There were some decent bumps on the route but the true test will be Fiddletown road

Here are a few before/after shots...

Before (1)

After (1)

Before (2)

After (2)

Before (3)

After (3). Wrong side, but you get the idea

Interesting note: both before and after we’re shot after ~100 mile drives starting with freshly washed car/tires. Lighting is not same due to time of day diffs and quick iPhone captures, but pretty clear that Porterfields keep wheels cleaner

UPDATE:
So I'm now at 2278 miles and have had no rubbing. Drove over many of the dreaded freeway transitions between Sacramento and Monterey without incident. I did hit a big dip on a freeway offramp near Woodland that caused the front spoiler whiskers to scrape a little, but that is not a big deal as i get a little of that on most steep driveway/sidewalk transitions.

In case anyone is interested, here are the before/after measurements (extremely unscientific):
