Yes, the carpet has a really stiff backing, but it CAN be done without removing the seats. You DO need to remove the side kick-panel to the right.

Annoying because even after pulling the carpet out of the way, it wants to spring back. Some duct tape will help hold it out of the way while you work. <---"Duct Tape fixes everything"!

Once I was able to open the trunk and put everything (including the 0 voltage secondary battery) back together, the car powered up.
Directions on removing the Central Junction Box start on p. 5604 of the Workshop Manual. It implies the carpet just pulls up from the top. (I hate these vague diagrams with no text.)
