Default High performance tire needs to be replaced?

A jaguar service employee told me that when a nail is outside of the two parallel vertical lines(such as in this pic) on these high-performance Pirelli tires of a 2018 Ftype, the tire needs to be replaced. Does anyone know if this is true?

Nail outside of the left inner vertical line and above white writing.

Personally, I'd ignore that and go and get it plugged, sounds like someone's trying to sell you a tyre - regardless of what the advice is on here from others. But I'd go to a really decent tyre shop to get it plugged. If I was tracking the car, or really driving the car hard, I'd swap probably swap it however.

A decent tyre shop should be able to advise on the suitability of plugging in a specific place (on the tyre, not geographically!).

Tires cannot be safely plugged or patch when the nail is towards the edge of the tire. In the last month I had the misfortune of picking up a nail twice....both in the rear left. PS4S tires. The first had to be replaced. Tire shops won't even attempt a repair due to the high probability of the repair failing. Note: The tire was purchased from Tire Rack which had road hazard insurance. Tire Rack was efficient and expedient in paying for a replacement. The second nail was further towards the center and was successfully patched. I attached 2 photos. The Tire with the nail (screw) towards the outside was the unrepairable one.

Agree with you CRS - first one is a bit too far out for a repair in my eyes. But where the OP posted, I'd happily plug.

Auto part stores sell the tire plug kit. Very easy to use. Never had to remove the wheel to plug it. Just carry a small compressor in the trunk also.

Almost no tire shop will plug a tire punctured in the tread near the side wall due to liability concerns and a desire to sell tires. However my rule is if its in the tread I will plug it. Never had an issue.

Much like CRS 123 I've had similiar misfortune in the past 3 months with a nail and a screw in left rear and right rear tires, both in the outer most band, both determined to be unrepairable by tire repair companies and jag dealers. I too had tire rack road hazard warranty and was reimbursed for full cost of tires. However, another forum member thought my recent one could have been repaired and one of my clients said the same about the first one. Tire shops and dealers won't do it, because they are high performance tires that get a lot of stress in the outer band (or so I'm told). In order to get warranty coverage, insurance company must agree so there must be some reality to the potential liability. Picture posted is most recent damage. I had a 6 plus hour drive home at highway speeds so I didn't want to risk damage to my custom rims or me and my son. Tire rack warranty comes in handy, although I had to extend my stay 1day. Good thing I had a very good friend to keep us company. Thanks Jay!

I agree it only takes a few minutes to plug on the car. Often you only lose a few pounds of air from start to finish. The tire shop's job is to sell tires.

I bought the tire repair kit and the Dewalt compressor as it had three power options; battery, 12v, and 120v (you have to buy 120v separately). It's expensive but works great. Also can use for around the house tasks.
With road hazard warranty and no go replacement on tire, I get a new tire. Not always most convenient.

Don't forget to put needle nose plyers and single edge razor in the kit. Plyers to pull out the object and razor to cut off any plug material that's hanging out from the tire. You shouldn't have to pull the wheel off.
