Exclamation instrument illumination knob not working?

anyone else had a problem with the instrument illumination knob not doing anything.

my instruments are illuminated at night, but not very brightly - and the dial has no effect whatsoever on it.

I suppose it's possible there's a plug loose or a fuse gone, but then you'd expect it to be out completely.

If anyone can provide some help on how easy it is to get to the plug at the back and check it that'd be useful ?

^ what? I am damn near certain that mine controls the brightness of the entire center cluster, the dials, buttons, etc. As you would expect. Now I have to test this again....

I stand corrected. Controls all dash lights. Just a delay.

The delay is measured in milliseconds.

Very long delay on my car - maybe 10 seconds.

yes it did!

I was whinging it back and forward expect it to be instant. It works fine - now set the way I like it.

I do find the speedo dial during the day isn't as bright as it could be - not as easy to see as it could (that's my excuse ofisker...)

As a result of this thread I noticed the dimmer knob in my car doesn't work when the car is in gear with the engine running. It only seems to work at all when the ignition is in accessory mode but not consistently. Sometimes all the lights on the steering wheel, instrument cluster, and nav screen will dim/brighten when the knob is rotated and other times just the lights in the steering wheel adjust and still other times the knob does nothing at all. When it does work the change is immediate with no delay.

Guess I need to add it to the list along with almost no sound out of the rear speakers, vibrating passenger door speaker, and IPOD problems (sound stutters and volume very low) when connected to USB port (streams fine over bluetooth though) for the next service visit.

Noticing my illumination dial doesn't seem to have any effect either. Hmm.

Checked out the illumination knob last night in the dark, and it does appear to work, but it doesn't have much affect during the day. I suppose the F-Type dial lights are just some of the dimmest overall I've had in any car I've owned. I think I read a post about people changing the bulbs but that seems like a lot of effort and deconstruction to do so. Better well left alone I suppose.

They only need to illuminate adequately in the dark. If they were bright enough to be noticeable during the day, they'd be blinding at night.

I see your point, but if they were nice and bright during the day, you would have the ability to turn them down at night with the knob. As it is, the daylight illumination is far too dim for me.

I finally figured out what the issue was with my instrument light dimmer knob. It turns out that that the knob will only affect the instrument cluster and nav screen brightness when it is absolutely dark out. If there is any ambient light (dusk, interior light is on, daylight) the knob has no effect even (except for the lights on the steering wheel buttons) with the headlights on.

On all my other cars and SUVs the dimmer works whenever the headlights are on.
