Default jaguar f type convertible top removal

Hello I have 2014 v8s f type and I am going to replace the soft top. I was wondering if anyone has a video or some instructions on how to remove the roof?

Brave! Top is expensive by itself, good interior shop at least a $1000 or more for install.

@shanelaughlin Please take pictures and post your DIY method if you tackle this job. We would appreciate it. Based on my search no one on the forum (or UK forum) has done this before at home.

Here is what I have found:

@shanelaughlin Is there any chance you could share the details of the top removal and replacement? It would really help the other members of the forum.

If you didn't take any pictures at least a description of the process would be great. Thanks in advance.

The car looks great!

I'm in process of purchasing a 2014 F Type which will need the soft top replaced. I'm hoping to complete the transaction next week. That being said, I looked at the manual posted here earlier (thanks to "DJS") more description would be helpful, but it will still be a massive help. I'll do my best to post the process on my YouTube channel along with the other service and repairs the car will need.

I'll have to give a big thank you to @DJS for sending over the workshop manual. It's actually a very straight forward process if you follow the manual. the only hard part is getting the top out of the vehicle. It's only 3 bolts on each side and 5 wired connections that really hold the whole top in. Once all of that is done I would recommend lift up the top with 1 person on each side about 4-5 inches to remove the cotter pin on the sides, then set one of the sides back down and lift the other side as high as possible and pull. Then the other person can go to the opposite side and lift straight up and its out. If you are like me and when you started the process you locked the soft top down and already disconnected the battery you can actually go about removing a cotter pin which will release the grab bar that holds the top down. If anyone needs and tips or tricks on how to get it out don't be afraid to reach out!

@shanelaughlin Some more details would be great so that we could make a DIY thread on this. Do you have any photos of your work?

So to remove the top it should be in the closed position first, or do you recommend the open position?

If it is closed how did you access and remove the cotter pin?

How do you best access the 3 bolts on each side?

If you started out with the top closed and latched, when you reinstalled the top did you re-latch it with the cotter pin then power up (so the sensors were not confused and did not need to be reset)?

Can you let us know the reason for replacing the original top, and where you sourced your new top?

Thanks

I would recommend the closed position but do not let it latch all the way. If you do let it latch all you have to do is go to the center front of the top and remove the trim and there is a cotter pin and bolt at the bottom of the latch and it will loosen the latch when removed. To access the 3 bolts on each side the one on the top is very easy to access the other two you will need to remove the trim for the seat belt and there is 2 black stickers which when removed you can access with an extension the bolts. Yes one I got the top back in I relatched the top down and put the cotter pin back in. I replaced the top because the previous owner neglected this car and it had a grey top with a lot of tears in it. So I sourced a black top from a totaled 2015 f type with 9k miles so it is like new.
