Angry Laundry List of Problems with CPO F-Type

About 2 weeks ago I bought a CPO 2016 F-Type v6S 8-speed. With a week I was having problems, and they are continuing to stack up.

Fortunately, the manufacturers warranty does not expire until May 2022, but I have barely even been able to enjoy my 'new' car and I have to bring it in for a service to address all this bullshit next week. I'm pretty disappointed, am about to be without my car I just bought, and am wishing I could just return the ****ing thing.

Here is a list:
  • Engine ticking noise on cold start persists through entire operation cycle.
    • 3rd gear, ~30 mph, idle 1000-1100 RPM, light throttle and release, can hear from in car
  • Unidentified high frequency whine/buzz at idle while parked.
  • Something in the door internals has scratched the window on the drivers side
  • Rattle in passenger door at certain bass frequencies
  • Sagging headliner, bumpy headliner drivers side A pillar, bubbling headliner behind passenger seat. (Dealership 'repaired' before I bought, didn't notice until later)
  • Active exhaust squeaking and rattling when changing positions.
  • Squeaking and popping interior trim drivers side near B pillar/drivers head (not the seat rubbing).
  • Squealing brakes coming and going, seems to be sticky caliper because continues on release and acceleration from stop, light braking pressure is incosistent and grabby
  • Lumbar support does not seem to move up or down. Not sure what correct operation is, might be normal.
  • Panel gaps, particularly front bumper, are mis-aligned
  • Start/Stop engine function not working
  • Drive side tweeter speaker rattling/muffled at some frequencies
  • Thurs Oct 28:
    • Letting the car roll to a stop in automatic, from ~20mph downward, the car lurches as though it is downshifting and engine braking. I hear a servo noise from behind my seat that dissapates with a 'click' just after the car comes to a stop.
    • After parking, loud thunk and lurch from rear end when putting in park.
Pretty hugely disappointed, I already bought a Jaguar banner for my garage and everything. I love driving it but omfg this is not what I expected.

How many miles? Can't blame Jaguar for all the problems on a used vehicle. Maybe the previous owner beat the **** out of it. Did you get a PPI?

I can’t help with all of that, and my 2017 v6s has some of the rattles you mention so I’m interested in hearing what people say. The window scratch has a technical bulletin JTB00502. My car had it and remedied under warranty.

Start/Stop was probably disconnected via the voltage stabilizer. One of the first things I did, thanks to info on this forum.

Speakers might be blown but you might ask dealership to do the infotainment update. That is one of the symptoms that gets the update. Or just plan to do an aftermarket system. The Meridian in the F type is major suck anyway.

The other items make me wonder if this is a flood damaged car.

~30k. However I do think I can blame Jaguar, because they provided me with an extensive CPO checklist. I did NOT get a PPI, I suppose I naively assumed the thorough CPO inspection doc (which covered more than just 125-point BS) would have looked at all of these things.

Sorry to hear this. That's quite a list. Although some of the issues are pretty common that amount of issues doesn't seem normal. Makes you wonder what kind of life the car had previously...

Thank you Tom, it really is supremely disappointing. I pushed my budget to reward myself with a car I would really like, and I feel like a fool. Thank god it is still under factory warranty.

On the "Engine ticking noise on cold start persists through entire operation cycle.", does the ticking happen when the engine is warm or only when the engine is cold?

You're not entirely alone with some of these issues. I'm almost 3 weeks into ownership, base V6 with 13k miles. It's heading in to service next week with an intermittent rattle in the top front of the engine. A new tick consistent with rpm that just started. Twice the idle settled into a bounce from 1800-2000. I won't hijack your thread, just letting you know you're not alone.
Quirky is the best word I can come up with.

Your list sounds like a summary of all the issues F-Type owners have had over the years.

All are repairable, but I don't blame you for being discouraged.

SEARCH the individual issues on this Forum, and show the dealer what they need to do to resolve them.

Here's a good place to start looking

Was it really a CPO? If so, that's terrible. You should return it. Sounds like it wasn't cared for and it definitely doesn't qualify as certified with all those issues

Also are you sure it has a mfr warranty to 2022? Or is that the CPO? If it's the CPO extended warranty it won't cover most of the issues you raise - rattles, cosmetics etc.

Honesty I would go back to the dealer with the long list of issues. Show that it can't be certified with all those issues. Get your money back and find a much better car.

One overlooked area are the springs under the seat after flood clean up. Stick your hand under there with a damp paper towel if it comes our rusty that could be the issue, and a flood car should never be cpo.

I agree. A car with half of your described problems should never be labeled CPO. That car likely has been abused by prior ownership.

The window scratches are a known issue. There was a bulletin for replacing the seal, and either polishing out the scratches or replacing the glass. I had it done a few years ago. If you can't find anything by searching here (that's how I found out about it) I can dig through my service records.

Check to see if misalignment of front bumper gaps may be hood misalignment due to improper closing. Not seeing exactly what you are referencing worth a try. Open hood fully and lower gently with your hand moved to the front at center (near the windshield so as not to compress the aluminum hood) and give firm, but gentle push to close.
If your car is a coupe (sounds like it is), their was a bulletin on software fix to improve rattling subwoofers and poor sound. Plenty on that one here.
Dealer needs to check the differential for leaks; another known issue.

I am in process of buying a CPO myself but lucky still has factory warranty in place. As FYI to forum members. cars with CPO that were subsequently sold through non Jaguar dealers are no longer warranted under the CPO.
Sounds like you bought yours from a Jag dealer though.

Lumbar support should noticeably move in and out, putting or releasing seat pressure against the middle of your back when you turn the round knob. Wing seat bolsters should do the same.

I hope some of these issues are easily resolved, but would press with dealer as others have said above.

Does your car have panorama roof with sunshade. Mine was replaced under warranty. See if yours was and possible related to headliner issues that should be fixed. Mine has extended leather and is tight and smooth.

I would absolutely blame Jaguar. I'm sure you paid a premium (just as I did), to get a CPO car. Unfortunately, they are most likely going to tell you to pound sand on some of the issues. That's what my local dealership said when I asked about misaligned panels and a peeling dashboard in mine about a week after purchase.

"Sorry, interior issues and adjustments aren't covered". I'm still under the factory "bumper to bumper", which isn't even close to a bumper to bumper if you ask me.

Don't get me wrong, I love my car, but I don't love the dealer.

So sorry for your issues..
Especially with a CPO !!

A 2016 wouldn't be covered under EliteCare Factory bumper for more than 60 months from original in-service date...
So the "2022" coverage has got to be the extra 1 or 2 year of CPO unless the original in-service date was June 2017;
possible but really unlikely.

Is this your 1st Jaguar ever?
Which dealer?

Show us the CarFax..

Call 1-800-Jaguar Monday and ask if your VIN# is indeed CPO.. and if so, until exactly when?

.
Are you sure Jaguny? I thought CPO warranty is fully transferable to the next owner?
