Default Making the F-Type Louder

Any ideas on mods to make the F-Type louder without a lot of throttle? I love the sound and don't want to use the raspy after market cats or mufflers. 90% of the time, this car is too quiet.

That VAP valvetronic exhaust reduces the raspiness and gives the car a deeper sound (at least putting the 8 exhaust on the 6 has that effect, I cant see why it would be any difference on the 8). It is mentally loud, as in if you give it a prod in an underground car park it hurts your ears. I dont like the raspy sound at all, and I was spectacularly happy with the outcome.

Rotate the volume dial to 100 and ensure phone is on loudest setting, then listen in to your favorite tune and bask in the harmonious wonders of the Meridian

I wouldnt recommend it

+1. The VAP Valvetronic (quad) Increased the sound while decreasing the raspiness.

I've listened to a few YT videos and although its hard to tell the volume level, it sounds even quieter in idle than stock.

This one sounds raspy compared to the stock V8 exhaust. Maybe it has sport cats.

I know we are never going to get a rear view mirror shaking, seat messaging V8 rumble in idle, but getting a little closer to that is what I'm looking for without changing the on-throttle sound.

I run without F43, so my understanding is that its basically straight piped through the 2 outside quads and muffled through the two inside quads, is that correct?

You are correct: open valves shunt exhaust to straight outside pipes. And yes, sport cats will IMO render any rear box excessively raspy. But some folks like it that way.

I found mine was noticeably noisier at idle after I put in the BMC air filters, also more SC noise. The noise was increased enormously with the VAP exhaust, I was seriously concerned I would be pulled over and tested when I got it back. That video isnt half of it.

My perception is that added boost from Tune/Crank Pulley has made my car louder at WOT. It may be my imagination as I didn't do before and after decibel tests but the car sounds perfect with factory exhaust.

I removed the resonator and installed an X pipe on a V6. Go to this thread for more info and sound comparison.

Removing the resonator, obviously, increases the raspiness if that’s what you’re going after.

Still to this day I love the glorious stock sounds of my R. Never has got old. I get the whole 'want it louder' desire though. In my youth I had a special hacksaw on hand to cut off muffler old school. My Saab Sonnet was the loudest, raspiest nasty 'non exhaust' ever follow by a Fiat Spider.
Even my wildest friends would complain about that horrid loud sound. But I like LOUD.

I understand that. Many years ago I took a 2 foot masonry drill bit to my brand new Triumph Speed Triple mufflers because there was no aftermarket exhaust available for about 6 months after it came out.

I want a little rumble. F-Types are plenty loud under throttle, but almost completely silent most of the time. It sounds like our aftermarket options change up the on throttle sound which is the part I like about the stock exhaust, but make the car even quieter off throttle.

RacerX - I get what you're saying now. I think it has more to do with the acoustics of the car. Jag would design the exhaust and use sound dampening to keep the luxury aspect of the car, especially while sitting at idle. It's not a '60s muscle car, so not sure how you could get that type of flair. Really though, I think you'd better sound addressing it on the intake side by ditching the intake mufflers and air boxes.

Agreed, I mentioned before that just changing the filters made a noticeable increase in sound at idle, I reckon cone filters would make quite a bit of difference. Also ditch the engine cover.

I put K&N filters in long ago and the engine cover is a wall decoration. Its still way too refined and quiet in idle to 3000 RPM. I think we need long tube headers which is probabaly not going to happen.

Yeah, but what about the intake mufflers just above the filters?

If you want more noise try Eventuri's air cleaners with the Mina Gallery intake pipe. I definitely hear supercharger whine at low engine rpm.
