New 2021+ F-Type R Owner - Question on painting side skirts and front splitter
Hello all,
I recently purchased a very lightly used 2021 F-type R. It is my first Jaguar and so far, it's been a great experience. One thing that has slightly bothered me is the fact that side skirts and the front splitter are painted in gloss black instead of the matching body color.
Does anyone know how difficult it is to remove the side skirts and the front splitter so that I can get them painted to the matching body color? I would appreciate if anyone had removal instructions they can share.
That one's bluefire. I've seen a new shape coupe in bluefire with black pack, on the road with all the LED's going it look absolutely fantastic, really exotic. I reckon it would be my pick if I was buying one in the new shape.
To answer your question, removing the front splitter is relatively easy, made much simpler if you get the car on a lift or raise the front a bit but that is an easy job.
The side skirts on a 21 MY may be another matter as I am not familiar with a 21 and perhaps may be better left to the body shop that is going to paint them....
Either way, I do not imagine that you would be facing a significant cost to have that done.

Thank you for the response! Sounds like I won't have the remove the front bumper for the front splitter which is a relief.
I looked at instructions for removing side skirts on pre-2021 models and it looked like door threads had to be removed to be able to access the nuts holding the side skirts. It didn't look easy removing door threads without damaging them as they seem to be held there using a double sticky tape. Would love to know or confirm whether 2021+ models would require the same process.

You are right about having to remove the door treads (tread plates) to access the bolts for the side sills (which in turn the side skirts are bolted to).
A year or so ago I retro-fitted illuminated tread plates and there was absolutely no way I could remove the OEM tread plates without destroying them, which didn't matter to me as I was replacing them anyway. Yes they are held on with double sided super sticky tape and you cannot remove them without bending the bejeebus out of them.
My advice is buy a set of new tread plates, they are cheap enough, or spend a bit more and get illuminated plates. I bought my illuminated tread plates for a bargain/sale price which is why I got them but who knows what they cost now.

Thanks! I was hoping for 2021+ the process would be different.
I wonder if there would be a way to access 2021+ service manual.
I've had wrap on my sills for over 4 years now and it has stuck fine (car is garaged). I'd try to colour match wrap and that way you can get it on without taking anything apart.
Personally I prefer the black sills which give the car more of a waist (and black looks epic with the bluefire) but no-one comes to me for fashion advice.

I thought about the wrap and I think it is a great idea. I just don't know if they could match the depth of Bluefire blue with a wrap. Can they match 1:1?
Nice car ! I'm thinking of ordering a new f type and wanted velocity blue BUT they've pulled the SVO colours right now - no one knows if they will be coming back.
So, I'm thinking Bluefire blue as back up colour. How would you compare it to Velocity Blue ? (assuming you compared the two lol )
Thanks, it is the Bluefire Blue. It is a pretty deep blue with slight purple undertones. Looks really unique in person.
I just saw one at a local dealership because I may be in the market. That color is a chameleon. On the dealership floor under fluorescent lighting with indirect bright sunlight coming in through the big windows it looked like a dark navy, almost black. Your photo is how I envisioned it would look but it definitely is light dependent.
FWIW, and I confess to a bias, and recognize that stating these opinions here will probably mark me for all time on this forum, but I have to pose the question...Why?
I mean, you don't have to immediately dive into this, esp. with needing to deal with the issues of cost, paint vs. wrap, color matching, replacement sills, etc. So, why not wait a bit and grok on it before pulling the plug? Go check out a couple of car shows, or a C&C meet. The cars you'll see are expression of the owners' pride and joy. Compare the number of solid-color vs. those with accents. You might find that solid-color cars are the minority.
Other than in showroom floors, almost all of the F-Types I've seen 'in the wild' (Washington, Oregon, California, Hawaii) have been either solid black or solid white. Booorrriiiinnnnggg... Your new car is in a beautiful, rare color. The black skirts and air dam serve to highlight that color. For the MY21, they were part of a not-that-inexpensive option. Somebody obviously had thought it to be worthwhile. So, why not preserve it?
Just a thought....if you get a scratch, scrape, chip in that black gloss, touch up is trivial.....if you paint....not so much.
I have a blue car with the awd aero stuff and my car has all blue save the middle front....it is black gloss...leaving it as per the factory. I think blue on the sides is nice, but NOT nicer than what you have...to me the key is the added aero look both give you. With the black roof, the black works well.
I just damaged mine on the right. Did you find a site to order new ones?
