Default New-to-me 2016 S CONVERTIBLE power trunk question

Super excited with my new-to-me 2016 S CONVERTIBLE! I notice that the trunk goes up automatically when I press the button the remote, or inside, or on the trunk itself. Once the trunk is open, pressing any of those same buttons doesn't close the trunk automatically. The only way to close it is by hand, manually. Is this expected behaviour? I don't actually mind, just want to make sure something isn't broken. I thought I saw power open AND close on the coupe, but maybe the convertible doesn't have this.

Thanks in advance!

It should power close if it has power opening, it may need to be calibrated. Is there a switch on the inside of the trunk? I know the coupes have it, I am actually not sure on the convertible and the workshop manual isn't clear. You could try fully opening it manually and closing it fully, but usually it requires the process ran via SDD. If it doesn't know the position for any reason, it will inhibit power close, but not power open as it just drives it to full open. Could be a failing sensor, wiring issue, etc. if it's not a calibration issue.

There is no power close on the convertibles. There technically is no power open either, just the ability to unlock/pop it from the remote. If yours goes all the way open on its own then it is just some very overactive struts you have.

Oh wow! That explains that then! Mine has a button on the trunk and inside the car that when pressed opens the trunk automatically, but doesn't close it. It does go all the way up by itself so must be the struts helping it out! Mystery solved, thank you!

The trunk lid is so heavy it never open on it's own!

Even the tiny convertible lid? (No apostrophe in the possessive form of "its", BTW, only for a contraction of "it is".)

Answer- manual only. What you describe is the truck lock unlatching on the convertible just like pulling a hood release too on most cars too.
It won’t lock on its own and needs a push down to relatch the lock.
