Default OBD II

After having a flat battery 2x from the infamous OBD port II disconnect after the state inspections in years past, I asked the dealer today about when I took my 16R in for service as it's also due for the state inspection

He said they have an old bulletin which updates a module which should tackle the problem. I'm reticent about the software update because of the potential to dull the pops & crackles as I believe they're software controlled.

Are you familiar with this module update, if you've encountered this OBD disconnect issue on your car? If you've had it done, did it affect your exhaust sounds? I'm trying to judge if it's worth doing or not!

I'd ask which module would be updated. I don't recall hearing about a solution to this issue.

Yea I think I've had the OBD disconnect issue before. Not sure how to solve it yet, does disconnecting the battery re set it?

Yes, just remember to reprogram the windows, too.

Can you post the bulletin number / details? I also wasn't aware there was any cure for this. I get it after state inspection too. Quick disconnect once a year to fix it isn't a big deal

Here it is - and it worked! Didn't have to use the manual key to unlock the car to find a flat battery, first time after 2 prior state inspections where that happened. it also didn't affect any sounds. Appears to be a permanent fix to this snarl - hope it helps,

So if I go to the dealer and say "Update the software for the instrument cluster and gateway module", what do I say to specifically NOT update so they dont do the update that mutes the exhaust?

I had to look up quiescent, LOL

Glad the issue was fixed...but keep an eye on the HAZARD triangle indicator just in case!

@Cheapo911 Don't know for sure, my 2 cents would be to let them know you experience the battery drain issue after state/emissions inspection, and are they are able to fix it. It may depend on how many F types your mechanic sees - my service manager said his level 4 tech was very aware of this issue. Asked what the bulletin/service number was, and apparently JLR has removed the bulletin notice - I wonder why, as it seems to be one of, if not the most, prevalent of its quirks.

I may well be wrong about the pops/crackles being software related/driven.. I would confirm with your service manager that the only software update they do is just this gateway module and instrument cluster.

Pretty sure it’s an ECU update that affects exhaust noise. Used to be K309, don’t know if there were other later updates.

Was this the Asheville Jaguar dealer? I'm in Winston-Salem and travel out that way fairly often. I might book mine for this service even though I have The Rock's quick disconnect solution installed.

Great to know @DJS and @winstonsalemncxk Peter - it was, shout out to the tech Jason Lanciki, service advisor Brandon Sisk and service manager Jack Thill for what seems to be a fix for this
