Default Overfilled Oil

Ok, I have read several threads about this but had a question. Just how sensitive is the oil gauge in the F-Type? I had the oil changed a few months back, have driven it a few times since then and last week checked and it said overfilled. I pumped some oil out of it and still get the overfilled reading. So i took a long level and my garage floor is about half a bubble off (front end higher). Could it really be something that slight affecting the reading?

Probably not your issue but just in case: you need to give the oil sensor a couple of minutes to stabilize... it always says "overfilled" at first, then goes down towards its final level.

I waited the 10 min because it wouldn't give me a reading at all if I didn't wait.

If you need to you can go to a medical supply store and get a piston syringe and tubing and suck some out.

You need to wait 10mn, then display the oil level on your screen, then wait a minute for whatever level you read to stabilize... it will say "overfilled" then will go down. It does not give you immediately the "right" level, at least not on mine.

Or, even more conveniently, you simply take the reading before starting the engine the next day...

I find mine reads overfilled only when pointing downhill, if uphill is shows underfilled. Always OK when level, regardless of time after switching off (10 mins or 2 days).

Garage floors are (or, should be) tilted that way on purpose, so that water that drips off a wet car will flow towards the garage door.

This slight slope doesn't seem to affect our oil level readings in the garage, but I can tell a difference when the car is parked on the approach to the garage (where the nose is ~ 2 inches higher).

The dealer ALWAYS overfills the AWD R cars by 0.5 litres. They still havn't changed the fill program from 7L to 6.5L for the smaller oil pan due to front Diff. Suck out .5 litres and you'll be golden

After my April 2019 service of my XF AWD 2016 Prestige model, I found the oil read "overfilled". Dealer said no problem. I kept getting oil smells. Dealer said OK. I was sceptical. I took car to Jaguar. They said they took out oil and put it back in(A lie btw). It read OK until this current service August 2020 when they had to replace the right side valve cover gaskets as they were leaking as I suspected. Overpressure. They did the pricey C Service which included oil and filter change. Now in August 2020 I again get car back. Reads "overfilled". I suspect also, like others that with AWD it is getting 1/2 litre too much. I now am demanding an answer and Service Mgr is on to it. What a pain. I will advise outcome for anyone interested. Great car btw. Better than my two previous BMWs. Has only 30K miles on it.

I thought this was a V8 problem. I've had 6 *********** oil changes and never had an overfill.

Nup, V6 AWD as well.
The V6 and V8 have identical sumps.

Add me to the Overfilled Club. My '18 Base V6 kept showing overfilled no matter how I checked it (+10 minutes from shutdown or cold read first thing in the morning). It's a RWD and done at a busy dealership so I figured it couldn't be over by much. Sucked out about 300ml with the MityVac and now it reads full. They also overfilled the coolant reservoir by about the same amount (filled all the way up to the neck), so I sucked out the excess with a hand pump. Neither would have affected internal systems but I feel better knowing they are within spec now.
