Default P2184 Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor 2 Circuit Low

2015 R with a remanufactured engine installed about 4,000 miles ago.

Just got back from an oil change from an indy I trust. Before the oil change, I would see an average of about 5.7 liters avg reading on the AJ133 Engine Oil Volume(l) metric in the Torque Pro app. I got the car back yesterday and drove it home about 10 miles. Today I drove it less than a couple of miles before I turned back around due to a yellow check engine light.

Codes:
P2184 Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor 2 Circuit Low
P0128 Coolant Themostat

I noticed that the oil volume during the drive dropped no less than 7.9 liters. I’m thinking an extra 2 liters was added incorrectly.

Two questions:
  1. Is that right? The 2015 V8 RWD engine is spec’ed for 5.7 quarts (about 5.4 liters) of oil?
  2. Would the presence of an extra 2 liters of oil volume have caused the new codes to appear?

My handbook states it's 6.5 litres for AWD and 7.25 litres for RWD for oil refill and filter change.

Is that for all model years? I’ve got a 2015 R, RWD

I don't think the engine block has changed over the years, only the tunes, but maybe someone has a definitive answer.

Yeah, everything I’m finding about the AJ133S engine (for example here: https://mymotorlist.com/engines/jaguar/aj133s/), all say the same thing: 7.25 liters for engine oil capacity. But it doesn’t mention the difference between AWD and RWD versions

Found this page:
https://oil-change.info/jaguar-f-typ...-oil-capacity/

which confirms what you had stated previously for engine oil capacity:
AJ133 RWD: 7.25 liter
AJ133 AWD: 6.5 liter

actually, when I looked closer, I see for 2015 model year R, the oil capacity listed as 6.5 liter
F-Type R 5.0 V8 (406 kW) (2015 – 2015)
6.5 liter

It’s pretty early now, but when I get up and about, I’ll go check the owners manual in the car and report back here.

Double-checked with owner’s handbook.

For RWD 2015 R engines, 7.25 liters is the correct engine oil capacity

I’ve also just checked the oil level on the instrument panel and all looks good there.

I’m stumped. Is it just bad luck that after the oil change, this new code (P2184) immediately pops up, whereas the last couple of 1,000 miles everything was running fine?

Has anyone by chance seen this code and fixed it on their F-Type?

Some additional info. It says the P2184 code is permanent in the OBDLink app I used to scan codes. (I have an OBDLink MX+ adapter). Why is it permanent?

Default Solved! Oil was overfilled

I had a hunch that the P2184 code was caused by the oil change.

Used a fluid extractor pump to suck out 1 liter from the oil refill hole under the hood.

Drove for 10 mins, parked for 10 mins, and read the oil level on the dash. Oil level still shows full and indicator says OK.

When I go to scan for codes, the permanent one had cleared itself. So I reset the check engine light, did a little light driving for 30 mins, and then brought back to my garage. Code has not re-appeared.

The indy shop must’ve overfilled it.

Additional info: the oil level gauge on the Torque Pro app is behaving like it used to: starting off with about 7.1-7.2 liters and then dropping as the engine warms up to about 6 liters while driving.

Default Actual Solution

Coming back to this thread because I realized I didn't publish the final durable solution:

After removing a liter of oil, it drove without a check engine light for awhile, but the codes did eventually come back, so I took it to a different independent mechanic in the area.
They fixed it for good. Here's what they said:

"We found the temp sensor wire was rubbing on the power steering pulley, we repaired the wire and re routed wires, test system and everything tested ok"

That was back in July 2024, and everything's still running smoothly. Fingers crossed

@SportsEngineer Thanks for posting the final outcome. That was serendipitous. I wish everyone who posts a problem would do that instead of, as @clubairth1 terms it - "hit and run"!

Now I am going to check out that wire during my next oil change in a few days to make sure its not rubbing.

Yes thank you very much for posting the solution and what a cheap fix that was!
Let's hope JagCode3 finds his problem that easy.

@clubairth1 Luckily I don't also have the problem but will do a preemptive check!

Sorry I missed that! Good idea just the same. Kinda like checking the coolant level. Just a good practice.
