Default Pictures of my first F-type oil change

I drained the oil from the bottom of the car. I used Castro Edge. I took the car for a 20 mile trip just to check for leaks and found none. I decided to pull some oil to take a look at it. I was rather surprised at the discoloration of the oil after only twenty miles. The only place the flashlight shown through the syringe was at the tip area.

flashlight on the left.

Oil discoloration is not unusual on DI engines.

That means the oil is doing it's job. The oil is supposed to hold and suspend contaminants so it will get dirty after only a little run in the engine.

And it dilutes with fair amount of old oil you dont get out. And why a double-flush makes sense.

this is new oil after 2 minutes of idling. I used a wide glass to get maximum light through it and placed it as close to a bright bulb as possible. So as to represent the true color in a photograph.

I did another oil change this morning. Drove it for 20 miles and pulled another sample and it is cleaner than the first one on Friday.

You are just wasting oil trying to change it until it stays an amber color. The color does not dictate when it's time to change the oil.

Yep!!! What does that tell you??
It rules one thing out, its not just the combustion that is making the oil dark so quickly.

There is a lot of nasty oil left over, you are not getting it all out the first time around.
And it only takes a very small percentage of old oil to severely shorten the life of new oil.
Many folks do an oil change with cheap oil, idle for 5 mins and then use the expensive oil.
Its the smart way to get most out of your oil and engine....which they dont make anymore, nor are there any rebuild kits.

Well done.
