Default Question about F-Type SVR vs F-Type R sound

I drove an 2019 SVR and a 2018 R in the UK today.

The R was very loud, pops & bangs as soon as I lifted off the throttle. Even at 2000-2500 rpm ther was a lot of drama in the R.

The SVR was a bit deeper, sounded good too but far fewer pops and generally quieter too. I had to really try hard to get it to work. I went to 4000rpm several times in gear 2 and lifted but heard no bangs or pops. Doing the same in the R was way more dramatic by comparison.

So my questions are:

1. Did I just exerience the normal SVR soundtrack or has it been reduced by a software update per noise regulations in the UK? I noticed the startup was a lot quieter on the SVR too and it forgot dynamic mode each time the car was swtiched off.
2. Can an SVR get a VAP tune to make it louder and pop at the same level as the R?

Thanks

Was 2019 when they introduced the particulate filter? My 2018 is very noisy when I want it to be, and has the software updates applicable to the MY.

This post (https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/f...4/#post2181410) explains the cat differences between the years (or at least indentifies them). Seems 19+ is the culprit.

Right, I see. That would explain it. The one I drove today was the 2019. And you know what, its impresive considering it has the particulate filter. The R was just much better though.

I have one other option here - https://www.harwoods.uk.com/jaguar/u...6530003137074/

I believe this maybe the same model as yours, Worryingly I just got off the phone with them and they think their SVR has the same quieter exhaust as well. I'll have to drive down and check for myself in person.

I don't have the SVR but if the filter was added for 2019 it shouldn't be present in a 2018 model which would have started production around March of 2017 (mine has a build date of 25th March 2017, so an early MY18). Anyway, I guess you'll find out when you drive it - remember to select dynamic mode and S! And then use the paddles to keep the gears down and the revs up ...

My 2017 SVR has a big roar on startup and plenty of pops and bangs along the way. Even in normal mode. Has had all the software updates

Given the pops and crackles are software driven you may be able to get more with a VAP tune. Ping Chris on the board and ask him what they can do.

I messaged Chris, lets see what he says.

Also, I had message from another guy on different forum and he said this:

As far as "noise" goes, from reviewing Jaguar data, it differs per engine and country but the UK cut over for v8's seems to be car number 59206 and older would be the old EU6 (we'll call that the noisy version then) and car 59207 and later would be the quieter EU6d model. There will be exceptions depending on the order the cars came off the line.

That is why the R was noisy than the SVR, simply because the SVR has been tamed by the gasoline particular filter (GPF) and updated software.
So your 2017 is not affected, the new GPF came in later. But it does go back as far some F-Types back from 2018, at least in the UK anyway.
