Question for paint/body experts
Hello Everyone,
Recently I bought a 2014 F-type V8S. There were a few scratches on the passenger door that the dealer agreed to fix via their warranty company. The body shop (approved by the warranty company) said that they would fix it but it would require removing the door, front fender, the clear bra off the bonnet, respraying the entire right side along with the bonnet. Then, send it the Jag dealer to reset any thing that needs because the battery would be disconnected. Then bring it back 90 days later to get the clear bra reapplied. They said this is all necessary because simply spraying part of the door and feathering it in won't work. Although by this logic the whole car would need a respray since the bonnet has to match both sides and the rear fender matches the trunk lid. This will take anywhere from 10 days to 2 weeks.
This seems extremely excessive to me given the scratches. I also have a VAP tune on it, which I worry would get erased, despite my warnings not to, once it gets to the dealer for resetting. I'm pretty mechanically inclined but not so versed in body work/paint.
Looking for input. I've posted three pics, from 15', 5' and 10" away.

Sounds like a lot of work if the damage is only on the door which is isolated from the other body panels.
My driver side door was scratched while in for repair. Think they only painted the door.
Can't see any diiference in BRG paint finish. Perhaps your color is harder to blend in.
OTOH, you would not expect a dealer to do more than necessary at their own expense.

What they are saying is they cannot blend (or think they cannot blend with the metallic) to the point it would not be noticeable. By painting/clearing to the ends where the body curves around the bumpers etc...You will not be able to tell. And you certainly won't be able to tell from one side to the other, thus they do NOT need to spray the whole car.
Metallic paints and pearl paints can be very hard to blend/and or match. They have to agitate the metallic suspended material, but if it lays down slightly different than the existing, you will see it as soon as light hits it. So sounds like they are trying to do it so it has the best look.

A good body shop will not paint part of a panel and feather it in. It *might* be OK for a little while but the patch will show with age. Adjacent panels might be painted to match because of the reasons DC states.
It sounds to me like they are doing it right. Tell the dealer "no software updates" and you should be fine. If you know what to look for, repainted panels can be pretty obvious. I have some and cannot tell the difference from the factory finish because the shop that did it is top notch.

Most of the marks outside the paint chips can be cleaned out and made invisible. Can be done by a good paint shop or detail shop. And I had part of my car just recently painted. They had to reinstall the Xpel that was on the car. It shouldn't take 90 days for the paint to cure. My shop was able to apply 2 days later. I also had a similar issue with my last 911. The only Porsche approved paint/body shop painted and reinstalled the Clearbra on that within a few days as well.

Where are they on the door? While I dont have any real comment about whether what is proposed is right, personally I would do a lot to avoid having the car essentially taken apart. Depending on how noticeable they are (and they dont look very big, maybe the size of a match head each) I would take money instead of getting them fixed, then try a decent touch up followed by paint correction. I've had one or two (chips from doors whacking into the car) that I touched up myself, I cant even remember where they are.
