Default Rebuilt/Rebuild Engine

I did a search, but did not come up with anything definitive. Is there currently a source for rebuilt V8s? I've been shopping for the right R or SVR, but I'm reading that parts are hard to come by? Or if the engine is toast, good luck getting a new one, rebuilt one, or someone who can rebuild it?

Starting to wonder, I want the Jag, but I've been reading through the forum and it is leaving me with the impression that anything blows up, I'm done. I will be pushing the car, I autocross/couple track days a year.

Tapa has had a significant presence on eBay for a while selling remanufactured/rebuilt Jag/LR 5.0 SC engines. . I can't vouch for the quality of their work, but hope this helps answer your question.
I'm not able to post a link, but a simple eBay search should direct you.

So, you can't buy a new engine from the factory? Makes no sense. I still have 2 years of bumper to bumper warranty. If my engine lets go, they would have to give me a new one. It's not like these cars have been out of production. A car company typically has 10 years worth of parts for vehicles once they go out of production. Plus, the Range Rovers use the same engine and parts, so I'd be surprised of parts weren't available.

Yep, they are still building the AJ133 at the Wolverhampton engine plant so it should be possible to obtain one.
Possible but not easy and hell expensive!

Thanks for the tip. I'm running a M-car now, just sold a air cooled 911, etc, just used to a huge aftermarket and no problem getting engine parts, or getting one rebuilt. The F-Type doesn't have the same support/resources it appears. I was curious if I was missing something, or everything is available in the UK vs the states.

Joe Augustine on facebook 'Jaguar F type Drivers Club' is rebuilding an engine for his Co-Parts convertible.

The most important points to consider whilst contemplating a rebuild of an AJ133/AJ126 are: did the engine overheat, or did it starve for oil.

There has been limited success with resealing an engine that had an overheating event providing the block is not distorted. This even after having the cylinder heads machined.

JLR have not provided internal engine components, and the parts that now appear on the Internet are usually made in China. I personally would not use pistons, connecting rods, or other internal engine parts unless made by JLR.

The last time I checked on price and availability of a new AJ133/AJ126, the local JLR main dealer quoted a price around 25,000$US with a short wait time.

I checked into the Tapa rebuilt engines, does anyone know what parts they are using?

Seems like VAP mentioned something about supplying some of the internals.

I checked them out, looks like they have just pistons? Are pistons an issue? I know about the coolant pipes, and am trying nail down the root issues with overheating/oil starvation. I'm fairly handy with a wrench, so not afraid of diving in as needed. But I already have a headache sourcing parts for truck I imported from Germany to the states, I'd rather not put myself into the position of waiting months for a part.

Why don't you call Keith at Tapa and ask him about the parts and procedures he uses?

I prefer to get information from owners who have had experience/interactions with vendors if possible. While there are many reputable vendors in the automotive world, there are some who are not. But all of them will tell you their particular products/services are viable. Some have even been known to stretch the truth from time to time.

I have already reached out to Velocity AP, and have noted many people recommending/supporting them here. So was looking for first hand experience/recommendations around engines/rebuilding.

Tapa did post in one thread here about rebuilt engines in the past couple of years.

Use the search function to find threads discussing the engines supplied by Tapa. I'm not sure anyone is going to be able to tell you what parts are used in the rebuilding process except someone from the company itself.

Here’s a long thread about a failed V6 and the Tapa replacement. Tapa/Keith indicated he wouldn’t discuss the internals.

I just had my second Tapa engine go on me. I went through both in about a 20 months timeframe. The first one dropped a valve into the cylinder - symptoms showed up (valve tick) about 10 months into the replacement. Failed right about the 12 month time. The second one spun a bearing. So from my experience I can't recommend them to replace your engine.
