Angry Seats Stitching Issue

The passenger seat stitching came loose on my coupe, at less than 700 miles on the clock. Only had a couple people in the pass seat since purchase.

There are no visible cuts around it, which makes me think it's a manufacturer defect.

I will go at the dealer Monday, but i was just curios if anybody else had similar issues.

No problems here. That's definitely warranty.

All good here.. last XKR and this ftype have no issues... likely a simple manuf. defect that they can hopefully easily fix. Kinda looks like the thread ended and then started without being connected.

Yep, it certainly appears to be an isolated issue that can happen on any car no matter how expensive, due to machine malfunctions during manufacture, etc. It's also the kind of thing that's difficult to catch on a QC inspection because I would guess they appeared fine before being fitted to the car. They likely only started unraveling after pressure was applied to the seams when the car started being used.

I will not settle for anything less than a new seat. It's fixable, but i could not live with the car given my OCD

I would bet you will get a new seat, and it's a lot easier fix than say some hidden electrical gremlin.

I will use the occasion to have CB mirror covers installed. (white R with black pack)

That's not good. Hopefully they can fix it with it looking shoddy.

See? Now you have an excuse to get those covers: "Martha, those mirror caps will ensure that this sort of thing won't happen again."

Do it in a nice way. Maybe you can guilt them into passing along some "customer service spiffs".

I am sure they'll work with me. They've been very cool so far and as somebody was saying, it's hard to predict something like this or have it double checked.

As long as it is a rare event, we're good.

That may create a problem if the die lots are different. The color will not be an exact match. A repair may well be a better solution to address your OCD if they can do it right.

I agree. If it were me, I'd rather have a talented upholstery person make that repair, which seems rather simple.

However, my bigger concern would be is it going to happen anywhere else on that seat, since the sewing machine may not have been working quite right that day. On the other hand, it could haven just been operator error in that one section.

I suspect the spool ran out of thread, and the operator didn't want jeopardize their quota by properly starting that piece over again. (Anyway, that's what happened in my alternate universe)

Went a dealer this morning and said they will order the part. I am assuming they will order the upper part of the seat.

Glad none of you guys have the same issue. In the mean time the stitching gap keeps getting larger with nobody seating in the passenger seat, which i find very weird.

Not weird, really. Remember, the leather is stretched quite tightly across the internal cushioning and springs.

Glad they're coming to the party without mucking you around.
