Default Start / stop stopped!

I fitted a new Varta AGM battery to my five year old F-Type R Coupe, all fine reset rear tailgate, widows and clock.

The only thing that no longer works is the dreaded Start / Stop function, I am very please as personally as I loath it!

I have been told that should I want to reactivate the Start / Stop, I would have to get a Jaguar service dealer to reset the BMS. apparently they have to sync the battery to the eco system It sounds ridiculous!

Has anyone had personal experience of this situation, does it only occur with a new battery, maybe it can remember the original fitment and functions "correctly" without pairing provided there is no battery swap. Other than that is there a downside to not syncing? One Forum member suggested that after a period of time it might reset itself.

It will often happen with a new battery. In fact, with a lithium battery, the dealers might not even be able to resync to reenable stop/start. There is absolutely no downside to leaving the BMS unsynced with the battery.

100% start stop is the #1 contributed to premature engine wear coupled with the extra thin oil to squeeze every mpg out of a performance car

My start stop has activated a total of 2 times since I've owned the car. Honestly, I don't know what's going on, but I don't mind it either way - not like I bought this vehicle for the mpg.

I'd say cold starts definitely would be many times more wear-inducing than start-stop, to the point where start-stop probably is negligible wear.

Default Me, too!

I took the car out last week and didn't notice it, but my ECO is off now too... no battery change or anything (although the second battery, if I have one which I guess I will check, might be dead... if it is there at all>)

I don't miss it and I prefer it off; I was thinking of the disco procedure herein but now, I don't need it!

The stop part only works if there's enough juice in the systems to restart without causing problems. If your secondary battery is dead, that'd do it. And if you don't have one, it could be your main battery is low on charge.

Car started up just fine, and I keep it on trickle charger (hooked up per instructions I found here!) so who knows, but I am not going to complain. Thanks for the quick reply.

I guess you have a dead secondary battery then. AIUI, the secondary battery is only used to keep "essential services" alive during the stop phase so if it can't maintain them you've got ECO disabled. Lucky you, saves having to hit the button on every start!

When my 2nd battery went out for the second time the consensus on the forum was to leave it off!

I've done some more investigation and my start stop only activates when the battery has been fully charged as marked by my battery charger. This is why I've only seen my start stop activate thrice, each time immediately after a charge. I'm guessing some voltage level is needed, and under normal operation my car doesn't reach that. No idea why, as I have no issues unless I let my car sit for weeks at a time.

I believe MY15 still has the 2nd battery. Don’t recall the last time my ECO light was on, showing that feature’s available. Not much question my 2nd battery is dead, have to remember to remove it sometime. (At some point they renamed it from ECO to Stop/Start.)

Yep, MY 2013, 2014 and 2015 all have the 2nd battery then from MY 2016 on it is single battery.
If you have a 2nd battery the best thing you can do by far is rip it right out of the car, that completely disables the useless SS system and has zero effect on anything else.

Note Oz uses the same MY scheme as Europe (and ROW?), I.e. one that makes sense. Your ‘14 would have been a ‘15 in the US. My ‘14 (delivered June 2013), would be a ‘13 elsewhere...
