Default Sudden power loss. 2.0

F 'type 2.0

i was driving back from a grocery run this morning. Taking the long way home.

i slowed for guys working on the road. Then put the pedal all the way down in dynamic S. Car accelerated poorly. Hit ,6,000 rpm and badly stumbled.

Car would accelerate like it had 40% hp. Limp mode? Drove that way about 4 miles home. Planned to let it sit a bit and then call the dealer.

let the car set several hours. Went for a ride. Everything is perfect again.

Any clues? Car has 6,500 miles, 2018 2.0.

Did you recently fill up with gas? Maybe water in the fuel or clogged fuel filter?

Do you have a OBD II code reader? If not go to car parts store see if it is throwing any codes.

No fuel recently.

I am surprised if it did cause a code, there was no light on the jag dash.

I take it you didn't knock the Automatic speed limiter (ASL) by mistake ?

Full throttle overrides that, at least in my model year.

Not all codes will trigger a CEL. Some of them are just stored in the ECU.

Yep, it went into "restricted performance" (limp) mode but who knows why.
There should be at least one error code stored, get yourself a decent code reader (like an iCarsoft LR 2.0) and check for codes (then post them up here), then clear the codes, go for a run and check again to see if any codes came back up (unlikely).
A good code reader is a must-have on these cars and can (and usually will) save you many times it's cost in diagnosing problems, especially the simple things that a dealership will charge you squillions to diagnose.

Today everything is peachy!

amazed how well the car behaves in wet weather. Our other vehicle is a diesel hd truck. Now that is a terror in wet weather.

I will need a scanner to see anything.

having come from a 63 MGB I really am not fond of all the new technology. KISS is my motto. Bought the simplest f type.

Sounds like a traction control hiccup.

Oz, I also got the iCarsoft LR 2.0 and like it for simplicity and functionality. I haven't had any issues with it at all. Have you had any of the OBD II issues after plugging it in?

I have never had a single OBD2 or battery issue and I plug in the LR 2.0 about once a month to check for codes.

That's good to know. I've only used it a couple times for some O2 sensor codes and haven't had a battery drain issue yet.

Is that battery drain issue real?

I would prefer not to disconnect the battery every time I used the scanner.

my car is under warranty for 2.5 more years.

If you've used the scanner without seeing the issue you should be safe - I believe the behavio(u)r is consistent.

I haven't had any issues using the scanner, and as Oz said, he hasn't either. I only asked because there are other posts where plugging into the OBD II causes battery drain. Apparently this is not an issue with iCarsoft LR 2.0. Or at least in our two experiences.
