Coming from 3 previous Corvettes, I've had good experiences with Goodyear & Michellin run-flat tires.
Living in Houston, which has the worst pot-hole ridden streets in the world, & lots of debris on the road, I'm extremely comfortable of having run-flat tires & now wants to fit my R with them.
Since no one makes run-flats in our current R sizes, but Michellin have their PSS run-flats one size smaller in: 245/35/20 instead of 255/35/20 fronts & 285/30/20 instead of 295/30/20 rears.
My track days are over & I don't do drift driving, so don't need to squeeze 1.2 g's out of 'em anymore.
So, my question is having that one size smaller tires affect the fit & performance much to justify having run-flats?
Please, please, please. Do not comment on how awful the run-flats are, or how awful this brand or that brand is, or ...
I just want to know if the tire installers will install one size smaller tires on my R & will it fit correctly...
Thanks,
...but I suppose it might expose your rims to some kerb rash that would otherwise be protected by the ridge around the tyre, which is why I have oversized tyres on mine.
Thanks for the suggs of oversizing, but they don't make run-flats in oversizes in 265/35/20 & 305/30/20
so I'm stuck with undersize if I want run-flats...
@navyblue
From one smurf to the other.. .. consider 'alloygators' in the same colour as your rims.. It will make the tire aspect look lower and your rims bigger..
Also they protect your rim edges... I had them on my LR3 , no joy. They kept coming off due to the height of the tire walls..
No problem at all with the FL2 , these were a lower aspect type of tires. You do end up with a plastic clip visible were the ends join...
On the rear wheel the clip is at 22h clockhand position..
Hmmm i have lived in houston 38 years and have run ftype r tyres on my 04 vdp with out issue and i drive 75 miles daily. Ide stay with what you have. But if you do swap them out ill take your old ones in exchange for a few free oil changes or something
My bad luck of having 3 blown Michellin PSS run-flat tires on my Vettes in last 9 yrs.
Lots of new construction in my area.
Luckily, I paid dealer $200 for tire insurance, twice.
Limped back to dealer on run-flat tire, 30 minutes later, brand new tires, no charge. Otherwise, it'll be $500 + tax & install fees, each time...
Jaguar dealership didn't offer tire insurance only on my F type.
I have F-Type R, and when I purchased it used (1 year old) the rear tyres were the 285. Neither the dealer or I spotted this, but happily when I did, the dealer swapped them for the correct tyres. The tyres were fine, however i did find the back end a bit more tail happy, however that could be down to the effect of new vs worn tyres. One point I would mention is if you put non standard size tyres on, will this impact your insurance ?

In the US, no. In Oz or the EU, others will know better.
