Uniden R8 Radar Detector
I recently purchased the above mentioned radar detector and want to attempt to install it myself.
I would appreciate any advice, instructions, links, etc. about this specific unit.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I have an R7 that taps power from the rear view mirror. Tried to find the post with the info but came up empty - will try again later. Basically you but a mirror tap kit off Amazon, mount the detector to your windshield (mine is suction, to the right of the mirror) and then run the tap. Also might want to read up on F-Type heated windshields - some (if not all) of the later cars have that which can interfere with radar signals, there's a specific location you will need to consider. Mine is a 2015, before the heated windshields.
Keep your receipt handy. I tested my old 9500ix detector and it didn't pick up anything at all (it usually alerts to every single Honda) because of the windshield coating. Ended up going for an R9, which works great (as you'd expect for the price).
I have some pics on my website from when I installed mine with a wire tap, there is a small window where the RD would need to be placed for optimal results: https://billswebspace.com/JAG.html#JAGV1
Yeah, I tried the 9500 there, on both sides of the mirror. No dice. Wasn't terribly upset, I wanted jammers anyway and the 9 isn't too much more than an 8 and the jammer add-ons. Plus the 9 is totally invisible on the inside, when the screen is off.
Okay ya'll. I temporarily mounted and powered up the Uniden R8 and took a fairly descent drive yesterday of about 80 miles on various types of roads and noticed that almost all of the alerts were from the side and rear. Might this be because the windshield is solar attenuated glass and the receiver is not getting a good signal? I read somehwhere that the area around the rearview mirror that has the perforated pattern is optimal location for the detector, but I see no way with suction cups or a mirror mount that would allow that placement.
Any input regarding this conundrum would be greatly appreciated before I pack it up and send for a refund.
Thanks, SS

Yeah, athermic glass will block almost all inbound radar signals from reaching the detector. Do you have the Climate Package 2 (Z88L), @SassySarah ? I think that from '17 that package, with the heated windscreen, included an athermic coating, so a later model like yours would probably have it if you have the Z88L (or whatever the Climate Package code for MY22 is).
As @wrh3 notes, the dotted area should be "clear glass" to either side of the rearview mirror, but as you note @SassySarah there is no way to use a suction cup mount that aligns the detector in that area, so short of some very trick mount the likes of which I've never seen, @Tarnish8400 's solution to use remote/bumper mounted radar receivers is the most likely solution.

Can't take a photo now because I installed my dash cams and the wires run there, but the 9500 tucks very high up on the mount, which itself is small compared to the new detectors, and you can loosen the headliner a bit to get it even higher (on the carbon roof at least, never messed with the glass or regular metal roof.
As a separate test I drove for a short distance holding it out the window while following a Honda, it worked as expected. Not a great long term solution though. The car has tons of room up front for a remote antenna, the back is much tighter, but there is space under the frame rail right up against the diffuser.
