Default Brake fluid test strips

Anyone here using test strips?

Comments, thoughts? What brand?

For ages I've been a every-two-years-or-30k-miles-brake-flush-guy. No complaints; it's always served me well. But I'm pondering a more thoughtful approach.

Cheers and thanks

Not seen these strips - what do they test for? Water content? Contamination ? something else? Thanks, Allan

I've seen them in the auto parts stores but never used them. I believe they were pricey.

Typically they are used to test for copper content in your brake fluid. When there is excessive copper found in your brake fluid, it is an indication that the corrosion inhibitors in your brake fluid are breaking down (brake fluid breaks down just like every other fluid in your car). Here is a good article on it: Brake Fluid Testing: Bleeding and Flushing Minimizes Internal Corrosion in the Brake System: Brake and Front End

Brake fluid is hydroscopic (absorbs water), as brake fluid ages it absorbs water in humidity from the air then looses it's hydroscopic ability. Brake fluid test strips test the ability of the fluid to absorb moisture. Brake fluid needs to absorb moisture to protect the internals of the hydraulic components of the brake system from rust or corrosion. If brake fluid has lost its ability to absorb moisture that can cause accelerated failure of hydraulic components of the brake system.
