I was wondering if anyone knew if the ElmScan 5 Compact USB OBD-II Scan Tool can scan for abs sensor faults? i have a dsc system fault and a fuel computer data error message that keeps showing up! not sure if they are connected? no one in my town can scan and tell me anything my standard OBD II scanner cant!

 

Which model Jaguar are you trying to use it on? OBDII scanners can be finicky about which model you use it on. Its a pain, but there you are.

 

the Elm won't read the ABS module, however, fuel codes (aka, engine), yes it will.

If you want ABS accessibility, and advanced engine/transmission, body, and air bag monitoring, you'll need AutoEnginuity w/ enhanced features unlocked, $550 roundabouts. BUT, once you have that, it does everything, and more...you'll never need another scanner. Software updates are available if you ever get a newer jag than its current release version.

 

its a 2000 jaguar s type that i have the problem on. thanks for the info im tryin to figure out which wheel speed sensor could be bad. i have read that the two messages i have coming up could be connected. they were fuel data computer error and dsc fault. so abs light, traction light are on

 

You could always check your local autoparts store and see if they have an ABS scanner. I know they sell just an ABS scanner just not sure if it works on Jags. Not sure if they have one for scanning that you could use but I do know they carry them to purchase and would be cheaper then autoenginuity. I was looking for one a year ago for another car to open the ABS solenoids and it wont to that but it will read your ABS codes.

 

Does that include functionality to manage daytime running lights and adding new keys? Or is that strictly IDS/WDS?

Have you tried cleaning all the wheel speed sensors? I had a problem with our XJ8 having the ABS light on and ASM & TRAC trouble alerts. Everything is normal now after I cleaned the front sensors and did a test drive. 3 days now without any more trouble. I also cleaned the rear sensors later that day to make sure they would not cause additional alerts in the future.

Not sure about lights but it won't do keys.

If you are asking about AutoEnginuity, it WILL NOT do any of the command stuff- No X-300 resequence lambdas, no keys, or dealer options, no TPS resets, no module programming. It will do pretty good sensor display and is good on some faults. It is MUCH easier to use and faster than IDS and it has much better trend graphing functions. I always start with AutoEnginuity.

 

Is this Ross from the jag-lovers forum? I remember a post there where you (or another Ross) mentioned having both AutoEnginuity and IDS. I'm looking for something that can communicate with the electronics (do module resets, dealer options, etc.) in addition to in-depth code diagnosis. What would you recommend? Thanks!
