Default HELP My VIN on eBay

I currently have my car for sale and was looking at eBay to gauge prices. I found a car listed locally with a picture of a car the same colour as mine. When I looked at the vehicle history report it was my VIN number and car details. It is not my car and not pictures that I have taken. I have reported it to eBay but what else should I do. Contact DMV? Contact the seller?

Sorry if this is in the wrong section, I was not too sure where to put it.

I've moved this from Jaguar Forums Advice / Feedback Suggestion Centre section to General Tech Help.

Is your vehicle legitimately advertised for sale anywhere that these details could have been copied from?

Graham,

Thanks for getting the post to the right section.

My car is for sale on Craigslist but I have no VIN in the post. I have contacted eBay and reported it and also contacted the local police to inform them.

My car is safe, my only worry is that a stolen car could have been fitted with stickers/plates with my VIN on them and sold to someone on eBay.

More than likely it is an eBay scammer, however I wanted to do everything that I could to avoid any problems in the future.

At this point I think I have done everything possible. Now I am just going to keep my eyes open to ensure that it doesn't reappear on eBay when the listing expires.

That's exactly what went through my mind when i read your post. Car 'ringing' is a serious issue over here and the first many owners know of it is when parking and speeding tickets start arriving in the mail.

As it's clearly a scam, eBay should block or withdraw the listing but do you need to make your DMV aware as the VIN would come back to you in any future inquiries?

Firstly, contact eBay and let them know.

A very similar thing happened to me. The main difference was, the bogus seller used MY photographs taken in My Garden. I emailed the seller and ebay and it was taken down after 48 hours
