Bob,

I figured you were skilled! This is good to know and would welcome seeing you badged, you deserve it.

Bob, please accept my sincere apologies for the delay......life's kinda getting in the way of things at the moment....lol
Personally, I blame the mods, they should be shouting to get someone like you badged and harrass the hell outta me to get it done
You have been BADGED

On a side note - Anyone seen with " ** TECH CERTIFIED ** " in their member profile as opposed to the "official" style badge will have it removed!
These badges are generally NOT just handed out ***** nilly, but usually to those with knowledge and experience to spare / share and that have been recommended by either a few members or a mod, or one that has generally answered every tech request for help and then some!

Red face Vct

my mechanic removed the VTC on a 2002 s type 4.0 with out the cam alignment tool! now the cam is advanced. i know it should have been taken apart with the cam alignment tool to secure it in place. so the question is. How do i find the correct position for the VTC? or how do i get the VTC internally aligned again?

1. Remove both cam covers
2. Rotate the crankshaft CLOCKWISE (only, never anti-clockwise) until the four cam flats (two pairs) are in two common planes. If all four do not line up then the cam that doesn't (one of the exhaust cams) is the one out of time. If all line up then the engine is timed correctly. If not:
3. Pin the crankshaft using the proper timing hole (crankshaft tool part of the timing tool set). If needed, rotate the crankshaft through two full turns if the crank is advanced past the hole.
4. Once the crankshaft is stabilized, loosen the exhaust sprocket bolt(s) on the the exhaust cam(s) that are out not on the same planes as the intake cams.
5. When the bolts are loosened, place the cam hold down fixtures in place.
6. Retighten the exhaust sprocket bolts as the cams are pinned making sure to use the spanner wrench (part of the kit) to take the slack from the driven side of the sprockets.
7. Remove the crank pin and rotate the crankshaft clockwise two turns and ensure the cam flats (2 pairs in two common planes) are still in alignment
8. Replace the cam covers
9. You're done.
