I paid about $150 each for two laptops and in fact have two with different versions of JLR SDD loaded.

I forget what I paid for each version of JLR SDD however it was not that much.

Also managed to pick up a genuine Mangoose cable on sale a while ago.

Also have a Midtronics which cost more than the laptops as I could not get one on sale although they do come up some times.

Also have an iCarsoft which is useful once in a while especially as it is easy to use. The JLR SDD products take a while to get going.

Thanks all. My DIY days may not be over after all! Haven't seen the links yet, but looking forward to getting smart on this new stuff. Nothing like driving this 500-plus horsepower "computer"; I love it a lot already (almost as much as the V12) so I want to take care of it as best I can, thanks again.

Anyone know of a manual to use SDD? I have a version from around 2005 and it is not at all easy to use.

If you have a manual from 2005 then it is WDS!! In 2005, WDS was the only 'latest, greatest' diagnostic we had. PTU was fading away and IDS was on the horizon.

WDS and IDS are pretty much the same. In fact WDS42 and IDS 42 were released at the same time. Then CD 43(WDS) and DVD 43(IDS) were released and Jaguar issued a TSB stating that WDS was no longer being updated.

DVD 101 was the first IDS independent release and it went on from there.(I have a copy if anyone needs it, in fact I have DVD42,DVD43,DVD101 and DVD102)

SDD was released in 2009 as SDD 119.(IDS 118.5 was the last)

If you have a 2004MY car, then WDS or IDS is fine. I don't remember if the SDD will revert to Legacy IDS for the 2004? It will for the X300, X308, X200, and 4.0 X100.

I have not seen a training manual for SDD on the interweb so I don't know if it is available.

Good luck in your search.

Google is your friend - search IDS-SDD-JLR Manual 02_02_12.pdf
