I am looking at an old Jag but nobody knows for sure what year it is, the car number is: PIF 26488BW.

Can anybody help me?

What kind of Jag is it? Is that an engine/chassis number or something else?

Any pics?

 

On the engine compartment Identification Plate there are four numbers,

CAR: PIF 26488BW
BODY: 4 F 45 54
ENGINE: 7F 3747-9
AUTOMATIC TRANS: 16936

VIN Decoder - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to discover more then you probably are looking for but you'll get some interesting data on the car as well.

 

None of those are VIN numbers which puts it before 1978 for a Jaguar.

A pic would make it way too easy and even telling us if it's 2-Door / 4-Door / Saloon / Coupe / Convertible takes away a lot of fun.

With absolutely no other information available, the last Body Series 4F with Engine Series 7F I can recall is the Jaguar 420 of 1966-69:
