Doesn't it just get on your nerves?
No names, no pack drill so as not to cause any offence or embarrassment.
Going back over threads that are several months old, I noticed a recurring theme.
There are some guys on this forum that are top notch experts at certain areas of Jagmanship. Ask them anything about wheel bearing sizes or spark plugs and the info is there on the tip of their tongue.
Some guys have knowledge in a lesser area but still try their best to help folk in trouble. They pray for the day that somebody asks a question about their limited area of Jagmanship, probably the area that caused THEM problems but were then fixed, so that they can show off their knowledge.
But what happens?
They get ignored. Their perfectly logical answer to the question is tossed aside like a used Kleenex and the giver of the info has no idea if the info was tried or not. It can make them wonder if replying is any use.
The point is that it takes just a few seconds to answer a post and give a reply saying that either it worked or it didn't. The least that such a reply would do is add to the knowledge base of the poster.
So please, just acknowledge a post that some guy has thought might help YOU.

Phew !! ..... I must admit that I wrote out the OP and then read and re-read it a few times before finally deciding to post it. I couldn't make my mind up if it sounded petty of me when it wasn't even me that was involved.
As for my own Jaguars problems, it is still in the hands of the mechanic. To be honest, I haven't even rung him to ask the latest news. I'm just delighted that he will have the car in his workshop for the next few days and give us room on the drive for 2 extra family cars that will be turning up tomorrow for a 2 year old's birthday party.
Gawd help us all. lol

5tevie - You make a good point thats been made here several times before, unfortunately we can't "make" people says thanks, or reply saying that the suggestion / fix has worked.
Gladly though, I do believe that in general, the bulk of the hardcore members here do as a rule post back replying that the suggested fix resolved the issue. To be honest, as far as I'm concerned its just good manners and something that I and most people would do in "real life" and therefore carry it forward into forum life, but, we're not all made the same unfortunately.
I'm glad that you edited / removed the OP's name after re reading your post as that would have been cause for concern. If more people adopted that we would be better off.
Thanks for the post though as it serves as a remonder when read to those that should remember to get back into a post and say "hey thanks, that suggestion fixed my problem"

As a side-note, I've also been a participant of many USENET newsgroups for many years (almost back to its inception) and we see behavior as the opposite. Not sure why that is - maybe folks in USENET understand posting ethics (?)
