The attached PDF file shows photos of my ACM install in a 2008 Super V8

Its been installed for 5 weeks and I have had no issues with it. Currently only using it for an aux input for my satellite radio, hope to hook up an iphone soon.

Fantastic write-up!

I noticed is that you have no upper glove box shelf where there is a shelf in the 2004 XJ8. There is a second light in the back of the XJ8 glove box where you drilled the hole, above the shelf, with the lens integral to the back of the shelf. Did your car have a second glove box light there? I've been considering this install and now think I might swap the shelf for the smaller electrical outlet enclosure in the Super V8.

P.S. Have you tried playing music from a USB drive larger than 4GB?

 

I have an 8GB one working great.

 

Excellent information, by the way. The dealer installed mine a couple of years ago. Works great with USB, analog and iPod, but not so great with the iPhone. It will charge it but trying to play music and Pandora is a PITA!

I wonder if this firmware is newer? Mine does not have the blue LED light.

 

Sleepyastronaut, The glove box was as in my photos, I did not have to remove any lights, shelves etc.

Jahummer, Apparently upgrading to the latest Dension D2B gateway firmware version 2.1 (which is newer than the latest official version for the jaguar ACM) allows you to use the ipod screen on the iphone 4. I do not have an iphone so cannot confirm this.

 

That sounds good. I use a USB drive and have 5 different folders as playlists. I am able to select the individual folders now. Do you know if upgrading the firmware will disable this feature?

 

Well, I think I am just going to wait until my Jag goes two months without any unexpected maintenance and then reward her with a nice new aux audio interface.

 

I upgraded to v2.1 D2B software and quickly put 5 albums onto a USB stick. According to the latest Gateway 500 instructions (which may be for the latest MOST versions and hence more upto date than the latest version we can use), Disc 1 selects playlists/folders, disc 2 artists, disc 3 albums, disc 4 playback options, disc 5 scan tracks, disc 6 source menu, ie USB, AUX, IPOD.
If I select Disc 1 then the display correctly tells me I have 5 tracks (folders, albums in my case) and I can select between them with the fwd and back arrows. Wait a few seconds and then the screen dispalys the number of tracks in the folder and you can use the fwd/back arrows to select the track you want. Have not quite figured out disc 2 and 3 functions, but functionality may depend on how your music is set up. Disc 4 is greyed out, disc 5 plays all the music on the USB drive.
Disc 6 allows you to select 9 tracks, 1 = aux input, 2 = ipod gui (use ipod controls and ipod screen) , 3 = ipod GW (use car controls to control ipod), 4 = usb, 5= BT audio, 6 = BT phone, 7 = not used, 8 = not used, 9 = CD changer (not used for jaguar ACM).
I dont get have an ipod/iphone but the good news is I could use Disc 6 to switch between (track 1) aux input (satellite radio in may case) and track 4 (usb). AS it switched modes the head unit would go back to radio, but pressing the CDC button put it back to the ACM in the mode I had selected. This is something I could not figure out how to do with the "latest" jaguar version 1.09 software, since the only way to get the aux input seemed to be to remove the USB stick!

Below is a link to the latest gateway 500 user guide. This does say you can connect USB hard drives upto 100GB, and I read somewhere on their site that it supports flash drives upto 64GB

NB. you get no text display on your jaguar display with the ACM.

 

I increased the number of albums(folders) on my 4GB USB stick to 12 and had no problem selecting them or the tracks in each. I also experimented and dumped several albums in two folders. I could access each folder, or using the Disc 2 and 3 selection I could access the entire stick content by album or artist. I put the same album in each folder to see what would happen {I had 4 albums in each( each song copied individually into the main folder, not under an album folder}. Both Disc 2 and 3 showed a total of 8 tracks (ie artists or albums) although I only effectively had 7. However I could only access 7 of the 8 so in a way it was correct.

Of course, although the new firmware gives more functionality, you are still navigating blind, but I suppose if you happen along a track and want to play that album or artist then it can now be easily done.

Hopefully someone can do the firmware upgrade and try out an ipod/iphone to see if you can control the music selection through the ipod/iphone, supposedly you can. If not I'll try and borrow one in the next couple of weeks, but right now have to do some work!

Alan, you may want to call around and see how many kits are left in stock, dension/jaguar no longer make them.

Note item E, the extension cable for the ipod interface is not included in the later kits for the S and X-type

Did anyone try pairing their Bluetooth enabled phone to the ACM and streaming music?

In the ACM's fitting guide page 2, it states in vehicles without the cd changer, adding an ACM 'may' require programming the radio to recognize changer (ACM).

Anyone have experience with the situation of adding an ACM in a non-cd-changer vehicle? I don't know if it matters, but the car does have navigation.

Anyone want to lay odds on the probability of needing WDS/IDS programming for the radio to 'see' the ACM?

Just curious how difficult it was to install, where you installed it, and where you took power from.

 

If you have a 2008 or newer XJ I would say the ACM should work without any need for reprogramming. The programming is only for the head unit to recognise a CD changer, not an ACM in particular. 2008 and later xjs never got shipped with CD changers as standard, because Jag presumed everyone would fit the ACM (so why they did not do it themselves who knows?), so I presume they at least had the radios programmed to work with the ACM. My ACM worked straight away.
Prior to installing it, I spoke with my local jag dealer about the cost of reprogramming the radio for the ACM. They said they have never heard of any need for this to be done and said it should work straight away. I'd be inclined to think this is the case in all jags (x-type,s-type,xj that uses the same ACM), because I do not see any advantage for jaguar in having differnent programming for whether you have a CD changer fitted or not.
