Does Pertronics make an electronic ignition module for the 1965 Mk II 3.8 liter

Yes it does, but all that aftermarket stuff is unreliable.
It's not a question of if, but when it will fail.
It may last for years or fail out of the box.

There are different numbers on each Lucas distributor eg. 22D or DMBZ6A, but basically they are all the same.
Look on yours and enter the number in the search box on the ignitor site.
Be sure and choose positive or negative ground.

Thanks Jeff. Negative ground, right? I installed a Pertronics unit on both my 1974 Karmann -Ghia, purchased new and 1953 Cadillac Fleetwood, purchased in 2016, and both are running well.

During the early years, the Karmann-Ghia burned out points quickly. The first time was on a trip to New Jersey in 1975 following a visit to my sister. Fortunately, she left to go shopping after I left to return home to Wisconsin and saw me stalled in a parking lot. After that, I always carried an extra set of points and condenser.

Yours is probably positive ground, unless someone has changed it.
Look at the bare cable that runs from the fire wall to the battery.
If it's connected to the negative side of the battery, it is negative (-) ground, if it's connected to the positive (+) side of the battery, the car is positive ground.

If the Karmann-Ghia was eating points, then the condenser was failing and/or the wrong coil was in there.

If it had a 1.5 ohm coil with no ballast resistor in the primary winding circuit, then that would burn the points out _ the coil would eventually fail too.

I know a guy with a RR Dawn who had never really changed the points in years, I checked them out and they were severely worn, but the car still ran well.
However that was a duel point system so it's not really fair to compare that to a set of single points, but still.

All the years that I've been using points, they have never failed me, but the Lumenition system in my Bentley did and it cost me a 150.00$ for a tow.
Had a TR7, where the Pertronix unit failed right out of the box, had to drive to the Jag dealer that sold them to me because they were convinced that it was my fault _ I wired it in wrong and fried the unit, so they insisted.
The new Pertronix unit did fail eventually, but by that time I had enough of that car and I sold it for 50.00 bucks just to get rid of it.

Another data point for you: I have Pertronix units in my Mk2, Alfa Romeo Giulia Super, and Triumph TR4. Haven't had an issue with any of them. The unit in the TR4 was installed sometime in the 1990s.

I have a 1962 AH Sprite with a Petronix electronic ignition on it which I fitted in around 2005, its done around 10K since without problems and then the car was laid up in 2014. A few weeks back I put a new battery on, span it over and it fired up straight away (even the old petrol was ok).

Whilst its inevitable that some units will fail in general most people I know seem happy with theirs and i'm certainly happy with all the ones i've fitted.

I can't agree with this...I not only had an electronic ignition put in my 1974 MGB the week after I bought it and drove it for 31 years with not a single ignition issue, but I also have the Pertronix (positive ground) unit in my 1966. 3.8 Mk 2 and I have put 10,000 miles on this unit, again with no issues. If these units are going to fail, they tend to fail almost immediately...otherwise they go on indefinitely. And the reward is instant starts when cold.

I guess I've just had bad luck then, I won't trust them anymore. Points are not that unreliable where I feel compelled to install any electronic ignition.
They're like having to carry cash around when the ATM machines inevitably fail.

And yeah, I could try it again, but I could see it failing at night and no cell phone service.
