I thought that I would have any easy job of mounting the front turn signal/indictor lights to the front fender. I will need to do a little grinding to remove some excess paint and filler, which is no big deal but I found that the three holes on the Lucas L563 lamp assembly do not line up with the holes in the body if the lens mounting screw is pointed straight down to 6:00. I thought that maybe the screw is not supposed to be at 6:00 so that the screw can be easily removed with the bumper in place but the factory manual seems to indicate that the screw should be down (at 6:00). The fenders were not replaced and even if they were I would hope that the holes would be stamped in the correct position. I can imagine that someone cut the holes but didn't bother to check orientation. Both right and left are the same (in that they seem to be wrong).
What does it matter how the holes are orientated on a round light, why does it have to be at 6:00 O-clock.
As long as they're spaced all at 120 degrees.
Place the lamp in a way where the screw on the chrome rim is easiest to get at.
What am I missing in your question ?
You don't want it showing straight up, so you only have two other choices.
I agree with Jeff..
You are fussing about with a simple round light.
The orientation of the securing screw should be at the lowest point.
Been there and done that with six MK2s.
Clearing mounting points from excess paint etc. is standard practice.
Yes.... I am probably over thinking this. I just assumed that the fixing screw for the lens should be at 6:00. The manual says it is at the bottom so when I found it to be different, I questioned what was going on. A screw pointing mostly down will likely be fine. OCD has been tamped down. Thank you.
If it was at 6:00 O-Clock, that would make it quite difficult to even get a stubby in there.
I have 90 degree ratchetting screw drivers that would work, but still a PITA.
Angle the screw towards the grill, I think it would show the least there.
I should remember as it's not long since I took mine off. I'm fairly sure that I used a right-angle ratchet screw driver. If the screw wasn't at 6 o'clock, it was close to it, certainly on the underside of the lamp.
Light install is complete. The screws are angled toward the grill, which had the best alignment with the holes in the fender.
Thanks to all for the input!
