What's sad is that the two wings look to be in very good condition. Having removed my engine and trans in one piece found it to be a very difficult job. Wish I had a car lift to make the job much easier.
It was a 3 man job for me. One controlling the hoist. One under the car controlling the tail shaft flange so it did not clout the scuttle. We were at the limits of our hoist so I was acting as ballast on the rear so no pics of halfway in. Cass still has the best system,
Work in progress.
Cass' fancy engine hoist angle changer: And yes his head is Duck Egg Blue ~ this is just a demo.

I am in favour of removal by dropping the front end off and dropping the engine then lifting the body clear.
You then reverse the process to re-assemble.
Only problem is you can't do it with the SU carbies attached.
Using the method in the photo leaves some flexibility with the chassis number near the bonnet catch. Does the chassis number move with the engine and the body go to restore another chassis number?

Is it more difficult with the carbs and exhaust manifolds in place? I have a crane and I am planning on going in through the top. I'm sure it is much easier to put the carbs and exhaust manifolds in place while the engine is out.

You can leave all that on. The hard part is getting the transmission past the throttle linkage if it’s a left hand drive car. We had to put the front tires on blocks get enough tilt at the back of the transmission because my car also has the overdrive unit. If you have access to a lift and can lift the car over the engine, that would be the best way.
That makes me sad. I have to think that there was at least some structural integrity in that removed area. On the other hand, I notice that car has the top marker on the wings from a MK2. Id like to see how that looks when put together.

I would imagine the car has been cut like that because the body shell is going to be scrapped. Sad because from what you can see it looks ok but it depends what country its in and how rare a relativley rust free MK2 is.
