Wipers
Next job is to try to sort out wiper motor. It parks in the correct position, but when operating, it sweeps +/- 45 degrees from vertical.. I understand there are various differen gears that may be possible. Am googling and YouTubing!!
not much info on this subject online. I have been searching for a faster wiper motor for my 1984 XJ-6 but it doesn't seem to exist.
the only person I know that has the gearing information you may be searching, is a wiper motor rebuilder and seller on eBay by the name of Max near Maryland USA.
search for "Lucas wiper motor" on eBay and you will find him.

Remaining stuck in park mode is often due to the mechanism becoming blocked with old grease. Though the mechanism is at first sight baffling, it's not very difficult to clean and regrease. It's a long time since I worked on mine. Bill is our expert, but you may have to wait until the sun rises over Queensland.
Jose - have you looked at converting to series 3 wipers? The ones on my series 3 DD6 work fine.

Hi Peter,
my 1984 XJ-6 is a Series 3 (built June of 1983).
The wipers are slow, especially during a heavy rainstorm.
Compared to my Ford minivan's wipers that can keep up with the same rainstorm, the XJ-6 wiper motor was embarrasingly slow. I did replace it with another motor from a 1985 XJ-6 only to realize there was no difference.

Sorry Jose, I should have known. In that case, is it possible that there's something wrong? I ask as I rarely take my wipers above the slowest setting. In fact, I remember the two occasions: once in Houston TX in one of the localised torrential storms and once in Belgium in a similar storm. We don't get that sort of rain in England.
Thye DR3 wiper motor does not have gear variations. It is an electric motor driving a screw thread onto a nylon gear like a worm and pinion.
Somebody has put on the wiper arms incorrectly and then adjusted the park switch to meet that incorrect setting.
Basically the wiper blades need to be lifted off their current splines and set to the correct sweep area.
The park setting is then readjusted to reflect the new settings. That adjustment is by the knurled knob adjacent to the cable drive
