Default 02 jag stype 3.0 owner trying to keep the car alive and running well.LOVE MY JAG

hi all you jag owners out there trying to keep your 02 stype 3.0 alive and running well on a very limited ss income. first starting out ,i bought the used 02 few years back with some minor common problems.fixed them all by research and good priced e-bay etc parts and junkyard interior replacement pieces.new rear upper and lower control arms about $700 all four (as well as upper fronts included) that were causing rear tires to wear down, and had 4 wheel alignment ,heater valve ,new fuel filter and pump under $150,pulled intake mani fold replaced all coils w new plugs, and crank? sensor, and some vacuum hoses ,the big elbow one under the plenum rear was collapsed. car ran like a dream also now getting over 300 miles per tankful. after almost a year or so started getting the p1388-variablecamtiming over retarted bank2 code, gas effifiency as well as a little sluggishness started.started added lucas fuel additive products, etc ,light went out performance improved.but after a few months would return.i would repeat former steps ,no light.started getting a front end type vibration /weird feeling with my steering wheel now at the 3 oclock position, found that one of the bolts went loose from alnigement shop work causing that section to move,re-positioned it and tightened in proper position.my mechanic buddy questioned the health of my steering rack also saying i needed inner tie rods, but due to health/income issues put on the back burner while concentrating on my recenly deceased daughters cars issues as to sell responsibly.getting that p1388 cde again did research and bought a variable cam timing solenoid along with gaskets, but decided to change my oil and filter first since dirty oil could block the screen on the old solenoid causing it to fail and buy some time till i could install the solenoid iunder the valve cover.drained the oil via oil pan plug first ,then removed old oil filter/replaced added 5 1/2 qts of the required 6 and went for a ride on the nearby xway.all of a sudden white smoke was poring out the exhaust with car not wanting to get out of its way,got off hway checked oil and found level way too high and had to suck out 2 1/2 qts excess oil???,no more smoke,no oil in water ,no water in oil.engine ran smooth but when gave engine a short rev heard some sort of rattle at the end of that rev.shut it off and left it for a few days .on my way to a mech bud,i felt the tiniest trans slip when i tried to go a little above 30mph rpms were irratic, brought car home.checked all my fuses and found the dsc fuse blown and replaced it before going to friends to install the cam solenoid, dsc switch was now working but light stayed on when shut off dsc.,had to use sport mode with the dsc enabled to get to buds garage but it didnt seem to want to go over 40mph without chance of slippage in ordinary drive mode and or w dsc off or on.so i left car there ,going over shortly to install cam solenoid for starters.I am not a Mechanic by trade so please any advice as to cause of restrictive mode(light not on ,but performance def restricted)as well as something not feeling right in front end ,Thank You

When Graham comes along he can wade through this wall of text and direct you to the correct section where you can find help for all that.

Welcome to the forum jagged77,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

PLEASE USE LINE BREAKS - a single block of text is hard work to read!

To troubleshoot the restrictive mode, the first step is to get the codes read. Follow this link
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ed-v8-x200-15/ to the S-Type forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the US Northeast Region forum by following this link
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/us-northeast-35/ to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham

Welcome.

I reckon Graham had a brain fuse, and meant to direct you to the S Type (X200) Tech Section.

Heaps of info in there, and that IS the place for Tech questions.

Good luck,

Welcome. Your "e e cummings, stream-of-consiousness" post was a challenge to sort through, truth be told. It looks like you have multiple issues that need to be addressed, some of which may be inter-related,

The S-type forum is located here:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ed-v8-x200-15/

You might want to break your post down into separate issues, e.g., suspension/steering rack, engine, DSC, etc. and re-post to the correct forum. Otherwise, the resulting piecemeal responses will result in a message tread that nobody can follow...

Please don't take this the wrong way, as I am trying to help...

JR
