Default 1997 xj6 l

New owner in Kansas: I picked up a '97 XJ6 L - all black (interior / exterior). There's some 'slight' body damage on a backdoor and rear well - likely to the tune of $1800+-

The headliner is falling down... of course!!

Lumbar control is... skittish - doesn't work at all on passenger seat. On front seat deflates then immediately re-inflates.

But it has less than 50k miles and upholstery is perfect - except for the headliner

I've visited around 8 local shops for various things. The import mechanic looked it over and said "No warning lights?? Oil / Tran fluid look great. Drive it. Put some miles on it."

Going from a Kia Sedona to a Jaguar XJ6 L... is like going from beef jerky to steak.

No pics yet... but thing is a work of art.

I've always liked a classic Jaguar but I NEVER thought I'd get to own one. (Lord willing I'll be able to afford to keep it!)

I have heard those sentiments regarding Jaguars vs other brands. It seems they spared nothing to ensure ride quality -- unlike some other components.

No pics yet... but thing is a work of art.
Yes they are!

I've always liked a classic Jaguar but I NEVER thought I'd get to own one. (Lord willing I'll be able to afford to keep it!)

If you're handy and like caring for your car, you'll have no trouble.

Jaguars, more than almost any other car, are in constant need of reassurance that they're loved and will do almost anything to get the attention of their owner. If you can deal with that, and you listen carefully to what it says to you, and you Act On That in a timely manner, you'll be able to keep it for a Very Long Time!

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Perhaps... in time... some rudimentary knowledge of 'things' can be smashed into my brain cavity.

Kanjag: I'm with you on the limited (non-existant) "handy quotient", but went ahead and bought my 96 XJ12 anyway. My other cars are a Ford Ranger pickup and a Chevy HHR, and you hit the nail on the head about the jag vs other cars. It's a whole other world, even though the jag is 18+ years old.

This forum has been invaluable as a resource every time one of our car's "quirks" comes up. At least when I go to the mechanic I don't feel completely uniformed.

Hello Kanjag, welcome to Jag Forums.

We could make many comparisons like this one. Keeping with the meat theme, I'd say it would be like going from a McDonald's patty to filet mignon!

See you in the X300 forum. We will help you get sorted out.

I've visited over a dozen shops locally trying to find places that I feel comfortable working with on this Jaguar. Between this forum and a shop I like hopefully I'll be OK!
