1st timer!
Hello my name is Raul, first time in a forum and first time to possibly be a Jaguar owner! I found a 1999 Jaguar XJ8 BRG. LOVE at first site! such a beautiful car! 105K miles no rust and motor looks very clean, I'm going to test drive it this coming weekend! Current owner is not sure if tensioners have been replaced,I did see that it has the thermostat replaced with the aluminum one, has new cooling system, new fuel system, new fuel injectors and new valve cover gaskets. He bought it from an older gentleman who kept it garaged for 15 years so body is very clean, but doesn't have the service records. I know It needs a new battery since it didn't start when I went to see it last week and he told me he was having issues with the battery. Any advise on what I should be looking for on my test drive?
Thank you!
Thank you!
Welcome.
I will leave advice more specific to those in your area to answer.
The tensioners are a #1 in my book, either way. As is trans fluid change, albeit a "Sealed" transmission, it still needs a fluid change at 50K miles or 8 years.
There is a buying list at the top of the XJ8 (X308) section that may help also.

Welcome to the forum Raul,
Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.
1. spend some time with the Owners Handbook making sure everything works. Apparently minor faults can often be expensive to fix.
2. the vehicle was originally supplied with 2 black headed master keys, 1 green headed valet key and 2 remotes. Remotes can be found easily and cheaply but keys are expensive to have cut and coded to the vehicle.
3. Jaguars shouldn't leak fluids - check for loss of engine oil, transmission fluid or coolant.
4. replacement trim (especially small plastic items) is either unobtainable or expensive. Lookout for missing or broken items.
Follow this link XJ XJ8 / XJR ( X308 ) - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the X308 forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.
You can also visit the US Western Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/us-western-38/ to find other members in your region.
Enjoy the forums. I hope the XJ8 checks out and you are soon an owner.
