2005 VDP Humming Noise/Vibration
I recently purchased a 2005 VDP with 125,000 km. from an estate sale. The car had been sitting for 2 years. Had it safetied, new tires, etc.
In short order, I noticed a humming & slight vibration at 80-100kph. Rebalanced tires---didn't fix. The car rides & handles wonderfully but I fear something serious could be going on. Has anyone had similar problems? My thought is that it has something to do with the driveshaft, but my mechanic (not a Jaguar specialist) doesn't think so, nor does he think it is wheel bearings, as this would be a constant noise. He thinks it might have to do with the air compressor.

Hello,
I'm sorry to read that your new Jaguar (congratulations on that by the way) is making this un-catlike noise. Someone will be along soon to direct you to the correct section where you can get help for that.
Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

further to my post re. Humming (thrumming) noise at 80-100kph. I downloaded the service manual for the XJ8 VDP and in reviewing the information regarding the driveline, I see that there are "balancing bolts" on the driveshaft. Could this be the cause of the irritation I previously described? Driveshaft out of balance?

I must start by saying I'm not familiar with the X350 propshaft specifically but it is exactly the same design as many other Jaguar models.

After checking for loose bolts and any signs of distortion from impact (these are thin walled tubes), check for wear on the centre support (arrowed in red) and the end 'Jurid' couplings (arrowed in blue).
Unfortunately Jaguar consider the propshaft a non-serviceable item and do not list separate parts other than fixings.
You should post further questions in X350 forum. Once members have read an Intro, few will come back to read the thread again.
