Default 98 XK8 / 01 XJ8...and other toys

Hi!

I just purchased my second Jaguar (98 XK8) and it's just a beauty (Blue with a very light tan interior - 15,500 miles). I also own a 2001 XJ8 that I've had for many years. I must be a car enthusiast as I own 5 cars, The 2 above plus '84 Ferrari Mondial, 91 ford PU and 2012 Volvo S60....I think I have a problem!

In any case, wanted to introduce myself as I just joined the forum and searching for lots of info on items for the XK (car cover, new floor mats, radio/BT, rear camera....)...but first things first:

1998 engine with only 15,000 miles....should I wait to change the tensioners to 2002 metal tensioners...or wait 30,000 miles? i.e. do the tensioners deteriorate over time even with low milage?

Regards, Miguel

Welcome to the forum Miguel.

If it was my car, for peace of mind I would go ahead and change the secondary tensioners only....those are the high risk ones. Even with fairly low mileage they have been seen to develop cracks from age, heat and oil exposure.

The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues. Plenty of information there on tensioners - don't delay.
