Angry Adaptive front lighting system (afs)

Bought a second hand 2015 Jaguar XJ and everything was fine for few days. Yesterday the AFS amber light started to flash. It would turn off every other cycle. However this morning when the amber light came on, the headlights flashed on and off roughly 3 times before coming back on. I turned off the car and back on again and the AFS amber light didn't come on but the Auto lamp sign wouldn't display anymore. I checked the headlights and they remained on. Wondering what should I do next.

Welcome to the forums Harb,

The most frequent cause of weird electrical faults on modern Jaguars is a partially discharged or failing battery. Always worth eliminating this before digging deeper into more obscure (and expensive) possible causes.

Follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xj-x351-53/ to the X351 forum for help, advice and information. You can also use the US Northeast Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/us-northeast-35/ to find other members in your region.

Please add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

Enjoy the forums.

I spoke to a mechanic he said might not be the battery but a sensor near the control arm that needs to be lubricated. Its an issue especially in winter weather. Does that make any sense?

Welcome to the Forums.

Makes sense, as does a Battery getting hissy. Down here 98% of battery issues are at the start of Winter, and the start of Summer.

Its 4 years old, and thats about average for modern car batteries.

Good luck.

Drove today and the afs light came on and all the lights flashed in and outside of the car. Also all warning lights flashed and I had to pull over. I couldn’t put the car in park as the shifter was stuck. I turned it off while in drive and then back on. When I turned it on again it reset the car and went to park and then I turned it off. After that everything was fine. What the heck is going on!
